New couch with footrest on murphy bed models

Just an FYI, someone in our FB group recently took delivery of their 2509S and were surprised to find it came with a new couch that has a swing-out foot rest and small laptop/snack tables that connect to it. I thought that was very cool and wouldn't you know at the Spring RV show here in Toronto they had one in a 2018 2507S. We really liked it.

I reached out to FR directly and they confirmed this will be standard on all the Rockwood murphy bed models going forward. Pic attached for reference.

Did you ask if they were going to sell a retrofit kit to the older units? That is a pretty nice feature, wish my ‘18 had it!

No, we haven't purchased yet so just inquired about new models. I would imagine it's doable.

Add a headrest and that would be the cats meow [emoji192] or I would like to see the slide out diner changed to two small swivel recliners with a TV tray for both sides on the 2507. This would make the perfect couples coach, how many agree with this and please post and share your thoughts.

I wonder how much storage is lost under the couch?

Still has access to the pass-through.

Right, but I wonder how much the hinges stick into the pass through. Right now I can store one of those 3 piece Lifetime picnic tables under there.

If anyone gets one of these and is willing to post pics of the business end under the couch I would appreciate it!

Dang, that's nice! Guess I'll have to trade in the 2018 model I just received...ours doesn't have that.

We almost duplicated your idea. See recent thread.

I wonder how easy it would be to make on a existing couch?

Thanks for posting that str8t six! That looks pretty slick and it appears to be all surface mounted to the front of the couch. I would think it would be pretty easy to replace the front panel of the couch with that set up. Very interesting. It would be awesome of FR would come out with a retrofit kit, we'll have to wait a bit for these to roll out then go hound my dealer on some parts prices.

I for sure want either a kit to make this work or a new couch! Any more pictures would help. Jay

I emailed the factory. They said they aren’t offering a retrofit kit, but the couch frame hasn’t changed. So you should be able to just replace that front panel. We need to find a dealer that will put a kit together and sell for a little better price than the sum of individual parts.

Or you could try this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Though this particular one which I purchased about 2 months ago is "currently unavailable", others are available.

Perfect footrest, great storage for adult beverage fixin's, and quite handy to add as an extra seat at the dinette. Best and easiest mod I've made in quite a while.

Oh, and I might add that the flip top seat, which is not split on many models, is quite handy when accessing storage.

Called a couple of Rockwood dealers in the Columbus Ohio area. None had Murphy bed model new enough to have this type of couch. Abendage did Forest River give you any idea what the parts would cost to make the change? Jay

No, they don’t sell parts direct so I emailed my local dealer to see what the parts cost. I’ll post up if/when I hear back. Not sure how easy it will be for them to gather info, pretty sure they don’t have a microfiche or parts diagram for RV furniture so they may come back with nothing.

The rep at the factory didn’t want to dive into the project at all. He said they wouldn’t have any instructions or recommendations on the retrofit, only that the couch frame didn’t change so it should be possible.
