New digital thermostat

I have read several other forums on upgrading to digital thermostat, with that I just installed a Honeywell RTH221B.
Hooked tow wires up from Suburban old thermostat, Green/white wire that was on R thermostat to R/RC to digital and White wire to G on digital.
Intalled two AAA Batteries to Digital Thermostat
Propane on, Battery charged and connected, No Fan/heat.
What have I done wrong or do I have wrong thermostat?
Thanks

What model was your old thermostat?

How many wires in total did you hook to the new thermostat? Should be more than two.

You'll at least need to hook up the fan wire(s) in addition to the ones listed above.

A two wire system is just a switch basically. If you connect the two wires together does your heater work?

I ran an extra set of wires to the bed area and installed a switch so I can force the heat on before I get up. We run the thermostat fairly low at night to conserve battery.

There were only two wires coming from furnace to Suburban thermostat. I hooked them up what I thought was correct instructions from Honeywell Digital Thermostat

One wire should be on R, the other on W. R and RC are usually jumpered together.

The attached may help you, although it's for a 111, not a 221. The 221 is programmable, the 111 is not. The switches shown in the dotted box show you what the thermostat actually does, although it does it with solid state devices.

For heat, the thermostat connects R to W.

For AC (which you apparently don't have), it connects R to Y to start the compressor and connects R to G to run the AC's fan, either through the AC's switch if you're in Auto, or directly from R if you're in ON. If you were to set the fan from "auto" to "ON," you would be connecting R directly to G without the AC compressor coming on. If you really have your wires on R and G, try changing the fan to ON and I'll bet your furnace starts up.

I should have picked up on the fact that it's just a furnace from you saying 'Suburban'. :O

In that case, Rockfordroo has you covered.

We don't know that he has a Coleman-Mach. He apparently has no AC, so I'm guessing that he just has one of those lousy Suburban analogs like this one:

Thanks everyone, connecting to W terminal on thermostat did the trick, had it on G, as I thought that might be ground.

Not if it's a popup, they don't. The OP never said what he had, only that it only had 2 wires.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know that you got it fixed, and how you did it. It will surely help someone in the future.
