New Rockwood Ultra Lite 2902WS on the way..

After looking over our choices at the RV Show last weekend we pulled the trigger and ordered a Rockwood Ultra Lite 2902WS. It was a good run....but time to upgrade from our hybrid Roo 23SS.

While it will be 8 weeks or so until it comes in, I would appreciate hearing from any 2902 owners with their experiences and any suggestions on what extra equipment we might want to add.

Our TV is a 2010 Ford F-150 Super Crew.

I was at the Pittsburgh RV show on Sunday and ordered the same trailer. Originally I had a deal done on a Signature 8329SS but after going home and really thinking about safely hauling the trailer I went and ordered the 2902WS instead. What was really appealing about the 2902 is that the tong and UVW is surprisingly light for a 34 foot trailer (674 lbs / 6596 lbs). My tow rig is a 2014 Nissan Armada and I feel much better about ordering the lighter trailer. The 8329ss was my absolute favorite layout but with three bump outs it is too heavy for my half ton Armada.

How did you get yours laid out?

I really want the counter top extension and Lazy boy upgrade but my dealer said it is not possible on the 2902. He is currently doing some research because I found one online that has those upgrades. The original 8329SS I wanted had the lazy boy chairs and they were really comfortable.

Ours will be very similar with mostly the same options...we chose the Maple with Aspen interior. We did not get the stainless fridge, opting for the wood panels on it. Got the power stab jacks but totally forgot to add the power tongue jack, ...but I need the exercise and can add it later if I get lazy.

We also asked about the countertop extension that we saw in some other similar floorplans. Not sure why it is not an option on the 2902WS but I thought about adding it myself.

We ended up ordering from RVWholesalers because: 1 - That is where we got our last trailer in 2008 which worked out well, and 2 - they outbid the dealer at the Cleveland RV show by about $1500.

I think I got a pretty good deal. Mine came in at $30,290. I really only shopped the one dealer I hope I did not get hosed. I could not find a cheaper one online with the options that I have.

I don't see any reason that the factory couldn't provide Lazy Boy recliners and a counter top extension on that model. The 5th wheel version Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8280WS offers the Lazy Boys but has drawers on the end of the kitchen cabinet where the extension would go.

Yea, I am working with them on it.

Another couple questions about hitch setup.

What brand or style weight distribution hitch/anti sway bars should I be looking at to get? My previous camping rig was a Popup so I am new to hauling such a long heavy trailer.

I use a 12K Equal-i-zer 4 point hitch with my F-150 and 29' TT.

I order my with a 2nd air condition for $1040 also a kitchen extensions worth the money foe a 2nd air condition plus it give you 50 amps

I did not even see the option on web site for a 2nd ac unit or kitchen extensions.

Is the kitchen extension the same thing as a counter top extension?

I got a quote from RVWholesalers on a 2902WS. 28,631 for pretty much the same options as GCally listed. They are offering an additional $2,000 discount if you use their financing. Still working out some option details.

Yea, I ended up not getting it at that place. I found it 3,700 cheaper at a wholesale dealer but the problem is you need to buy local. I heard that if you buy it somewhere else the local deal will give you a hard time about service. They will service it but you might not have priority in their buys season.

I changed trailers to a Signature 8329SS with every option. The wholesale dealer "Wana RV Center" was at $33,000 and I worked my local dealer down to $35,000. The wholesaler is located literally next to the factory which is a 5 hour drive for me. I ended up buying local and hope spending the extra $2,000 was worth it to have local service.

I also ended up trading in my wife's Armada in on a new 2016 GMC Sierra 2500hd Denali for my tow vehicle. It has been a very expensive couple of weeks.

GCally, your correct about the local dealer often not wanting to fix trailers that they didn't sell. If you have a local dealer that's worth dealing with then trying to get them down in price is worth it - to a point - but reputable dealers are hard to find. If you don't buy local, FR will help find a dealer that will work with you.

I hear lots of good things about RVW and often that they give you a bigger discount if you finance through them - even if you pay it off after a year. Do others give you the same sales pitch - Wana RV Center, Cheyenne Camping Centre, etc.? Can Canadians do financing with RVW in order to get the bigger discount? Unfortunately, with the Canadian loonie worth only about US$0.70, us Canadians are not going to be able to take advantage of cheaper prices in the U.S. for a while.

I bought 3 rv from funtown they will do you a good job but make sure you ask for the another year of warranty for $150 they won't tell you that.
