New roof costs are through the ROOF (pun intended)

Just received a quote to re-roof a 2013 Rockwood Fifth wheel 8289WS. It is approx. 32' and was quoted $9000.00 Is this normal? Where our cap meets our roof, the seal broke loose and now wind blows up under the membrane while you are driving making a large bubble. In trying to repair it they cannot seem to stretch the membrane enough to reattach properly, hence the reason they are saying we need a whole new roof.

I replaced the roof on my old Holiday Rambler. I bought a dicor roof replacement kit (35') with glue for $450. The hardest part was cleaning off the butyl tape that was behind the trim gutters.

If you have a place to work under a roof and a little DIY skills you can save thousands.

Can you use strips of eternabond tape the width of the trailer to bond the roof membrane to the front cap? 9K is crazy money.

Might work....eternabond can be purchased up to 12" wide I believe

I was thinking a 4" strip from rubber roof to wood underlayment and then a wider strip to cover from front cap to rubber roof? Got nothing to lose and $8900 to save.

Based on my Father having his roof replaced last year on their 32 Foot Bighorn Fifthwheel due to a limb tearing the membrane I'm gonna say the $9000 is very extreme. His replacement was around $4800 if I'm not mistaken. Insurance picked up the tab minus his deductible of course, but still I'm not thinking camping world cut the insurance company any slack.

The Eternabond tape does sound like it would be worth a try though. I made some amazing repairs with it on our old Fleetwood. I carry a roll of four inch wide with me at all times just in case myself or a fellow camper has that situation that threatens to ruin a Good camping trip.

Imo, completely normal price from a dealer. I just picked mine up two days ago from the dealer for the exact same issue. I was told it would be an $8k repair. Luckily mine was still under warranty however because I just bought it in April. The dealer tried to squeeze FR for a whole new roof, but FR wouldn't go for it and made the dealer peel back the front few feet and reglue it.

While camping this past weekend, I got on top of our Wind Jammer roof to set up the satellite and noticed the front roof looked bubbled up. Upon closer inspection, I could see where the roof seal at the front cap had a crack about 6 inches long in the Dicor; however it wasn't loose. Apparently when driving the wind deflecting up over the front causes a low pressure area and the roof bubbles up because it has the ability to suck in air at the crack. It looks like the roof material is stretched and I am considering trying to fix this myself by removing the side trim and regluing the material. I have a full covered storage stall so I can do this repair without being in the Texas sun. I have not taken it to have it looked at and not sure the insurance will cover it as it isn't damaged, just had a seam crack open. I think it is the EDPM material.

unless you firmly GLUE down the membrane the top will lift in the area just back of the front cap due to airflow over that area causing a vacuum above the membrane.
Ever see an old car with a vinyl top going down the road with its roof blown up in the air.
If they cant pull the old top tight , how will they pull the new one.
Just peel back the rubber apply the glue and roll with a linoleum roller. a couple wrinkles wont hurt and wont be seen up there. Much better than $9000.

Following a much to close of an encounter with an oak tree, my 32 ft. Flagstaff needed a new roof. Although the new roof was $7,000, the cost (less a deductible) was covered by insurance.

Good luck with your roof repairs and may the rain that falls during your travels remain outside your rig.

I have the same trailer. 8289WS, 2011. I noticed when I took delivery that it had a few wrinkles in the roof material. I assume that was normal and didn't worry about it. After a few years I had other travelers tell me that I was getting huge bubbles in the roof. I took it back to the dealer and was told it was from a few small holes in the fabric along one edge. They patched those holes but it did not help. I still get the bubbles. I have tried a band aid approach of attaching aluminum straps across the roof with screws to hold the fabric in place. This was suggested by the dealer. This didn't help either as the fabric would just work the screws out and the aluminum straps would come loose. Attempts at getting help from FR was useless. I was told by my dealer that some of the trailers are made with only edge gluing. I doubt that this is true as you could never hold down a roof by gluing at edge only. I suspect it is more likely that the factory had some issues with bonding this Alpha fabric down and is working hard at not redoing the roofs that some customers were unlucky enough to acquire. Not sure what I am going to do next. Hard to justify $9000 on a $35000 rig.

I was on Hwy 9 in SC and saw a CUB with the roof membrane flopping ~~ no way to contact him as we were in opposite directions... he probably is unaware..

Are you saying they charged you $8K to pell back a few feet and re-glue it..

Two years ago I had the rubber roof on my previous Georgetown replaced by Coastal RV in Cocoa, FL. They replaced the old roof with a new PVC roof at a cost of $4600.00. They did an excellent job and the PVC always cleaned up much easier compared to the older EPDM. I would use them again if I needed another. CW wanted almost $6000 to install new EPDM.

There is an ad in TL of a company that has a 3 day process that states the last roof ever needed. At their shop or come to you. Wondered about the process.

Yes , this is a normal price. Very expensive to replace. Speaking from experience with exact trailer you mentioned.

No, 8k was for a whole new roof. That's why the Forest River warranty division wouldn't approve it. They told the dealer they would only pay to have it reglued.
