New Windjammer owner....almost!
Hello all! New to the forums and thought I'd say hello. My wife and I have camped or entire lives and this will be our first trailer.
We should be picking up our 2012 Windjammer 2809 a week from today and we are both pretty excited! Hopefully we will be taking our maiden voyage sometime in mid April for a weekend.
I'm interested to hear from all the Forest River owners out there for any tips, tricks, hints or other information for when we get the trailer!

Hey MOjammer! Welcome to the forum and to the Windjammer family. We're south of you in Harrisonville and we have a 3008W. Got ours last May from Liberty RV. Is that who you dealt with? You will find tons of information and helpful tips in this forum. Lots of great people. We camp up at Wallace State Park quite a bit. Maybe we'll run into you sometime.

Welcome MOjammer. We are in a similar boat. We ordered our 3001W a couple of weeks ago and expect to have it delivered by mid April. Just received the hitch via FedEx today. Now just need the trailer. Our first trip is going to be up your way. We just made a reservation at a park in Branson. Hope to see you on the road some day.

Welcome to the Windjammer family. Best advice I can give is take your time on the PDI, make sure you get the second year warranty, and get out and enjoy your new rig!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the helpful advice!
Looks like we're all set to pick it up at Liberty RV this Saturday at 3. The wife and I are both excited for our first TT, that's for sure.
We do the majority of our camping at the Cedar Ridge campground at Clinton Lake just West of Lawrence, KS. My dad is a full-time corps of engineers volunteer our there so our whole family spends as much time as possible out there in the spring and summer. We are hoping now that we will have our own TT to head out to more new locals for mostly weekend trips.
Any advice on some good campgrounds within a few hours of KC would be appreciated to!

Tell the gang at Liberty RV hello. I mentioned earlier that we really like Wallace State Park up near Cameron. We have hit several of the Missouri State Parks and find them to be very consistent and the restrooms are always first class. My brother likes Watkins Mill. I've never camped there but he pulls his pop up there with his two boys for a quick get away.

If you haven't been out to Clinton Lake I would highly suggest the Cedar Ridge campground. One of the nicest I've ever been to, water and electric in all sites, kid friendly and a very well maintained campground. We will be making our first trip in the new trailer out there in April.

I second the advice on paying close attention on the walk thru.It is a time when you are wanting to get home with the unit, but ask questions, take a pad and pencil and write stuff down.Trust me,we have had 2 fifth wheels, two travil trailers and a popup. When we bought the windjammer this last year,we were told the water filter was under the television behind a door that had to have 2 screws removed to get into it.Turns out a speaker was behind that door, and the water filter is in the bathroom under the vanity.Just remember you are in a hurry to get it home ,but the guy doing the walkthru is wanting to get rid of you also,so he can move on to another unit.Pay close attention to the genesis sound system,if yours has one.Make sure all functions are explained to you, cable, air, dvd, satilite.

I guess you'll find out rather quickly if you have any roof or window leaks. We uncovered ours this past weekend but haven't had a chance to open it up yet with all the rain in the KC area.

Old Car, I know this thread is old, but I"m interested in the "Leak" you uncoverd.....
and
MOjammer, how is your trailer.....
We picked up a Windjammer 2809 and we've been out 4 times since.... mostly just a couple of hours from home, but still out.... we're hoping to head out this coming up week, but I'm curious about the leaks that old car was talking about.....
Thanks,
dfskinner

Hey dfskinner--maybe a misunderstanding in what I posted. We keep our trailer under a cover during the winter and back when this thread started we had just pulled the trailer out from under the cover but had not opened it up yet. We did not have any issues with leaks. We logged right at 7600 miles and 43 nights in the Windjammer for 2012 and I winterized earlier this week. I have some minor repair work to do from a tire blowout back in September when we went to South Dakota. Other than that, just sad knowing it will be April before I'm back in it.

Old Car thanks for the update....... just got my 2013 Windjammer 2809 and I was a little concerned....... went thru it with a fine tooth comb, and didn't have any issues. Inspected the roof at the PDI, supprised the delivery guy when I asked him for a step ladder, he told me we don't need to get on the roof, it's new. I told him, I'd like to inspect the roof....
Thanks again.....

I own a 2012 Windjammer. Do they all have water filters? If so, maybe I should go back to dealer for explanation.

Bob, I believe they probably do. I know my model (3008W) has it behind the bottom right hand panel of the entertainment center. A lot of members here have pulled theirs out and use external models. We have used our TT for two years now and I have not changed anything from the factory. Did you get a white wrench with your trailer? It's basically a handle with a big loop on the end to remove the housing around the filter cartridge.

In our 2013 3006WK it is in the lower small door of the pantry which is secured by square head screws. This is also where our fresh water bypass for winterizing is located. Hope this helps!
