No picture on DVD

Probably another thread in existence for this topic but didn't see anything that jumped right out at me. Concern is with the Concertone ZX800 unit that was just put in the TT as a replacement for the 700 model along with some other appliance issues.

Everything works fine on the ZX800 (radio, surround sound, CD player) but when I put in a DVD, all I get is sound--no picture--the television picture stays--but nothing from the DVD. It is a Toshiba 32" LCD television. The dealer that did the repair work to my TT is 2 hours away so I hope it's something I can fix at home. Should have checked it all out before pulling it home but missed this one aspect of performance.

Do I need to have the television on a certain channel for DVD? On my input selection from the remote I have tried HDMI 1, HDMI 2, PC, and video/colorstream (or some wording like that) and still just get DVD sound.

We don't use the DVD often but it would be nice to have since it's part of the entertainment package.

There is a composite (yellow RCA) output OR the HDMI output that your dealer should have connected to the TV.

My guess is he did not do either one OR he plugged the yellow RCA plug into an input instead of the video output.

I also have a 32 inch Toshiba and you should use the HDMI to TV HDMI input.
You may need to buy the cable since it does not come with the ZX-800.

Don't spend a mint since they all have to comply with the HDMI standard.

If there is a yellow RCA plug going into your TV (put your input on"COMPOSITE" to watch the DVD.

Here are a couple of pictures of the back of my Toshiba 32" television and the way the cables were attached from the dealer. I do not get a picture with the DVD mode. Get the DVD sound but the television channel picture shows. When I move the video cable to the green socket--I get black and white DVD picture and very grainy. The entertainment center is the Concertone ZX800.

Thanks that is much better. Look for an input on the front of the TV.
It might say camera or game. Looking for 3 RCA sockets.

Red, white and YELLOW.

You can NOT use an "adapter" to send a composite signal to the component input. Your dealer had no idea what he was doing.

The HDMI socket (like as indicated) is in the lower left corner as you look at the back. Buy the cable and use it. You WILL LOVE IT.

get one long enough to go from the back of the TV to the back of the ZX-800.

The video port the composite plug is presently in is one of the color stream, (HD- y, b, g ) ports. All three are necessary for a signal. I can't see the yellow composite port which is usually next to the R, W audio signals. In other words you have no video in to the tv as its cabled. You have three choices use a 5 cable color stream set up on the DVD and the back of the TV That would be r, b, g, r, w (audio r, w is smaller than the color cords) for picture and sound info. Or use HDMI cable all together one plug each end. Or locate the yellow composite video port and use existing audio ports. This port on ToshiThe hdmi is the best followed by color stream and composite/ and audio the least signal avail. When you chose your hookup set the TV to the same system to transmit to the set.
Just noted the composite port and matching audio could be on left side of Toshiba set Mine is on two different sizes.

There is not a single yellow socket anywhere on this model television. You can see the back plug-ins in the pics above and there is only one USB port on the side of the set. No RCA sockets on the sides, top or bottom. Just the ones on the back.

I am going with the HDMI cable. Bad news--I have a three footer and it's too short. Good news--they make longer ones and I'll be picking one up tomorrow.

For what it's worth when I use my Concertone to play DVD's I have to change the TV's imput from antenna to Aux imput. Could the problem be that he need to change to TV's imput selection mode?

He will always need to do that.
In his case his dealer used the wrong plug connection for his model TV.

I am going at lunch to pick up a longer HDMI cable and then this evening I will put it all back together. I'm sure Herk's guidance on this one will have me back up and running tonight. I sent the pics above to the dealer. I'll be curious to see what he has to say since they hooked it up wrong to begin with.
