Recommend this thread to Forest River manufacturing to address this issue of the step intake covers being made deficiently.

Open Range has the exact floor plan. It was on our very short list last spring. The 8289 finally won because it seemed to have more "liveable" space without having to move things around. LOML and myself were pretty impressed with what you got for the footprint used in that floor plan.

Good luck.

Agreed. The open range was our #1 choice but the GVWR was too high for my tow vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crew Max. If I had a Ford F250 HD we would have bought the Open Range with the same floor plan as the Rockwood 8289WS. My wife liked it better and it has the bed slide creating more room in the bedroom.

We love the Tundra outside that heavy towing and didn't want to go to a diesel and pay higher fuel costs when not towing.

It was a compromise that worked best both ways.

We could have pulled it and liked the floor plan and the capacities for sure...but the 100" width is an issue for us. Have to pull it between the house and neighbors fence to get it out of the yard. That extra 4" would mean the difference between a little wiggle room and no room for error!

We own an Open Range. Have owned it for 4 years and have yet NOT to have problems. We can't wait to purchase the 8282 WS and trade in the a Open Range. The dealer we purchased the O.R. from discontinued carrying them because of customer complaints and bad customer service from O.R.

Thumbs up

Be aware that the 8282 has a pin weight for 2014's model almost exactly the same as the 8289. And you don't have that dopey floating table and small tanks in the 8289. Pin weight dropped significantly for model year for 8289 and grew substantially (almost 12percent) for 8282.
The 8282 is no longer a choice for us , 8289 is some much more without the compromises. And the weights are a wash
It is certainly the best selling floor plan here in Canada
