Our First Fifth Wheel

We just purchased a 2016 Rockwood 2720WS. If anyone out there has this model we would love to have your feedback.

Thanks,
Lynn

The Ultra lite fifth wheels are pretty rare compared to the Signature. I don't have a 2720, but a 2650. I'm happy with it. I could've gone with a 2720 as well if one were available, or a 2440, or 8244...

Are you towing that 2720ws with a half ton pickup. If so, do you know what the pin weight is when fresh water tank is full and propane and battery. I was considering that same trailer, but opted for the 2507s instead as I was worried that I would be over my payload capacity once it was loaded. I contacted Rockwood and they responded very quickly but could not give me the answer to that question.

The spec says 1160# dry, which seems a little low. Maybe not. Add 350# for water, 60# propane, battery, cargo....and it still gets up there.

The rockwood factory guy told me to plan on approximately 30% of the water weight going to the tongue, but he said it was just an estimate. If you use the data that you listed then that actual tongue weight gets to about 1605. Then you have to add the weight of the 5th wheel hitch which is about 170 pounds for the slider type so now you're at 1775. My payload max is 1912 so the max that any passengers and extra stuff loaded in the truck can weigh would be 137 pounds. Most half tons other than the newer fords only have payloads around 1500 pounds. That's the reason that I went with a 2507s, but just wanted some real data from someone who owns one. Do you know what your tongue weight is when loaded?

I haven't weighed it. I plan on doing that before my next trip just to know the numbers. My 2650 has a little more pin weight, advertised at 1300#. I always carry water (though I'll be pulling the underbelly and reinforcing the tank mounts), and I generally have quite a bit of stuff in the cargo compartments. It wouldn't surprise me if it's up around 2000#.

Smile We're waiting for our new 2720ws to be delivered!

We're so excited. This is our first trailer since owning a popup way back in the 80s! We special ordered our fifth wheel since this model is hard to find in Texas. I think the floor plan will be perfect for us. Like the "super slide" with couch and table/chairs. Originally was looking at the Signature series, but this floor plan is what we wanted. Right now I'm busy shopping for accessories. It's like moving into a new house! Maybe you could share with me any experiences you have had with your trailer so far. Thanks,

Did you order the Rockwood Ultra Lite 2720WS? Or the Rockwood Mini Lite 2507S?

Rockwood Ultra Lite 2720ws

We purchased the Ultra Lite 2720ws after many months shopping and comparing models from Jayco and others. Can't wait!

Congratulations on your new fiver. We picked ours up 09/02/2016 and took it straight to the Guadalupe River that day. We've taken it out 3 times pulling it with a GMC 2500. We ordered a lot from Amazon... seemed to have better prices. Our next purchase is a backup camera. If your on Facebook join Texas RV Camping. We've have a great time when we taken it out. We're going to Lake Amistad in 2 weeks. It's just the perfect trailer for us. You're going to love it.

Talking 2016 2720WS Comment

We received ours Ultra Lite in May of 2016. Have had several (3) long distance trips and the unit performed well and meets our current needs.

I recently, (March 30) had the roof inspected with a reputable RV tech and the roof has started to peel back. I notified our RV Service Dept where we purchased and I have an April 20th service appointment.

I'm waiting for Forrest River rep to respond to our request.

Question 2016 2720WS Roof Replacement

I'm in the dealer's shop having a new roof installed on my unit. Not sure what to expect as far as quality of work from the dealer.

Anyone have pointers to look for when I pick the unit up?

Any help is better than what I currently have.

Thanks
