Curve ball indeed.
Now I've seen this happen before , may or may not be related.
the route to a friends cg was quite bumpy and twisty hilly roads.
He called me complaining of a foul odor in the bathroom.
I asked him the same questions.

I then asked him to kneel down by the shower drain and see if there was an odor there he politely put the phone down as he gagged.
The bouncy curvy roads had allowed the water to run out of the p trap in the shower.
Once he filled the trap back up the odor there as gone.

This may not be the case for you but just an fyi ...
Btw the odor was intermittent but completely gone after filling p trap.
They also didn't use shower much as they used the cg showers.

I'm still wondering if your black tank stink pipe isn't disconnected .

I cut the fan on, cleared it out, cut the fan off, went back to bed. Get up a 7 a.m., go into the bath - nothing. No smell.
I'm thinking that if the problem is intermittent, it must be influenced by some external force such as temperature, wind, fan usage. (We have a second fan in the living area.) We did not use the A/C this trip.

Do you use your shower? Traveling can slosh the water out of the traps and the fan can suck that gray water "sewage" smell into the camper.
