Smile Picking up new Rockwood next week

Hi All:

We are picking up our new 2007 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite model 8293SS next week.

The tolling vehicle is a 2007 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 with a 4.10 axle ratio.

I’m wondering if any you guys out there in the RV world have this combination or just have the Rockwood model or the Chevy Tahoe and your comments about them.

Thanks,
Dave in Long Island NY.

No direct comments to add, older Ford, and a 05 Roo 25RS here.

However, welcome to the forums, and congrat's on the new Rockwood!

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the new Rockwood.

You have a nice set-up with the 8293SS & the Tahoe.
If you haven't already, make sure you invest in a GOOD WD Hitch with sway control.

Welcome Dave and good luck with the new Roc. I have an 06 Flagstaff 829fkss that we got in Sept 2005. We towed every weekend and 2 or three weeks a year with a 99 Yukon 5.7l 3.73. Personally we loved the hook up. We could back in anywhere. The thing you want to be aware of is as with all short wheel base tv's you don't want the tail to wag the dog. Make sure you get one of the better hitches, Reese dual Cam, Equal-i-zer, Hensley and a good brake controller. Of course if you don't get off the island a lot it may not be as critical. This weekend will be yhe first hookup of our newly acquired tv. Thinking 5ver baby.

Thanks for all the welcomes and the congrads.

Hi Guys:

Along with the trailer the salesman has on my work order slip a brake controller for $349 and the dual cams for $188. Don't know the name of the brands at this time. Sorry if this is a bad question to ask, do I need both a equal-i-zer and a sway control? Does those prices look about rigth for the good quality equitment?

Thanks for any replies, it is appreciated at this end,
Dave from Long Island NY...

Dave,
here's a little info.

Equal-i-zer(brand name), with built-in sway control is made by Progress Mfg.
If you go with this, it is all you will need.

RV Wholesalers has a good price on the Equal-i-zer with built-in Sway Control for $399.00

Prodigy brake control, by Tekonsha, is one of the best brake controllers.

RV Wholesalers has them for $94.99

This photo is of a REESE Weight Distribution hitch with the Dual Cam sway control added. They are two separate items.

This is the Dual Cam sway control. This is used to control sway when added to the Weight Distribution hitch. It's available at etrailer.com for $179.95.

Maybe the $349 price he quoted you is for the WD hitch and Brake Control combined?? Then he is adding the Dual Cam for sway control??

What do you think????

Hi Milzat :

Thanks for the info. Now I can go back to the dealer and understand what the difference components are when they are discussed.

On the invoice it is written Brake Controller WT Kit $349.00 and on another line it has Dual Cams N.P. $188.00.

So it does look like as you mentioned, "WD hitch and Brake Control combined"
and the Dual Cams for sway control.

Hi Flagstaff:

Good look with your new acquired tv.

Dave...

Mike's right on with the prices. You may want to ask what your getting for the money so you have time to adjust if need be. I'd call and ask exactly what hitch and brake controller he's selling you. Dont let them charge for the brake controller installation it just plugs into the vehicle under the dash. Friction sway control devices can be had for $60.00. A full dual cam hitch from most places will be in the $500 -$600 range. If they do an Equal-I-zer it probably will run the same.
