Propane cross over

We are into our second week of full time rv'ing (still like each other) and something about the cross over has me puzzled. I had the left tank selected and just because I had nothing else to do I popped open the door today and saw the indicator showing red. Being this is only the second week with shore power and no need of the furnace, I thought that might be a little quick for what appears to be a 40 lb tank. I cycled the knob to the right and back to the left and it shows green again. Is this the appropriate thing to do?

Never mind. I'm a dumb ass. I never turned that valve on. I assumed the dealer did.
