Propane issue, very puzzling...
So I pulled the cover off of my tanks, smelled propane so I check all fittings were tight.
Still smelled it so I used soapy water, well I found the leak around the fitting where it connects to hose on the tank side.
I ordered two new hoses off of Amazon, highly rated, received last night.
Installed one hose, no smell then tried soapy water, very slow but still saw a leak.
removed it installed the 3rd hose, same issue except this one leaked on both ends where the fitting connects to hose.
Being stumped as to why 2 new hoses are leaking I jiggled the hose on the second tank, and lo and behold it starts leaking in the same place, where the fitting connects to the hose.
Consider me confused about why this happened, are these hoses not supposed to swivel at the fitting? that is where they leak, where the hose connects to fitting. And if you swivel it the leak gets worse, then less, etc.
Gonna swing by the dealer on Saturday, but thought I would post to see if any of you have thoughts on this.

A picture would help, but if you're talking about where the barbed end of the fitting is inserted into the hose and then crimped on, then no, they're not designed to be rotated. The only part of the fitting that is designed to be swiveled is the ACME nut that threads into the cylinder valve.

Hi. You might do a search for propane hose leaks. There was an extensive discussion about the issue you are having a while back.
The fact is, most of the hoses are just crap and poorly made. I replaced 3 or 4 on my one year old camper before I finally found a good set. I ordered the stainless steel braided hoses from Amazon. Don't remember the cost, but they were reasonable.

Are you using the yellow propane tape on the connection? (similar to plumbing tape)
I actually read the directions on the propane tape and found that it had to be wrapped in a certain way (clockwise or counter clockwise, I don't remember which. When I removed the old tape and wrapped the new tape in the proper way, the leak stopped.

I could be wrong here but for the flaired connections you should not need the tape.
The connection after the regulator did need tape. Your installation may vary.

Correct. No tape on flared fitting

I will swing by dealer tomorrow and pick up a couple, a few videos I saw they used longer pig tails to help keep the lines from binding, may be worth a shot.

Never seen swiveling propane fittings. They're solidly connected together. Longer hoses provide some slack so they don't need to have very tight curves and stress the connections. These are hardware store items since the gas grill on your patio uses the same hoses.

You might want to go to a local propane distributor. They can make the hoses for you and have found them to be superior to most anything you can buy. Ours tests the hose, before they give it to you. They also can be a very good resource, when you are stumped about possible problems.

That was my thought too. I am going with long hoses over the winter, I am currently on my 2nd set and they are leaking too.

This, X2. Let the pros help. They have the tools. Propane is not something to take chances with.

I'm confused. Is it the pigtails that are leaking? Are you sure you have the correct ones? Some have an inverted flare fitting and some have the NPT fitting. Flared fittings you don't need tape and you shouldn't over tighten them. The other fitting you should use minimal tape and not wrap 3 or 4 times around. I just don't think they can be bad. It's a 2017 camper? Could another hose be bad? Maybe your regulator is bad?

Yes from the description it appears it is the pigtails.
I have had my trailer 18mo and I have gone through 3 hoses on one side.
It came from the dealer leaking.
Another second one leaked at the same point as OP as well after a few months.
The third was somehow cutting the flow and not stopping gas from coming out when disconnected.
I don't do anything outside of turn the tanks off and on (through the top port even) and disconnect them to fill them once a year.
It is very possible to have this many bad hoses from my experience. Agree with visiting a shop that specializes in propane and that may be my next step as well. I think part of the problem may be Amazon's supplier. Their reviews show lots of complaints even with the braided higher quality hoses.

@$^& Squirrels
Squirrels love vinyl and they love the smell of propane. They've eaten hoses on the gas grill and on the little trailer when we had no tank shroud. I bought brand new hoses a few times. Once they ate through new hoses in less than 24 hours!
I've put new hoses inside this blue flexible conduit from Lowes. The fittings just slide through. The squirrels haven't touched them.
The hose screws into a brass fitting on the regulator. The end at the regulator is National Pipe Thread (NPT), a tapered thread, and should have either Rector's No. 5 pipe cement or yellow Teflon tape. The hose end of the fitting is an inverse flare with non-tapered thread and needs no treatment.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know.
Where did you wind up getting the pigtails from?

Local RV supply. Would like to have found 24", but the 16" is fine.
