Radio reception in the 8289 WS!

We cannot figure out, why our radio reception is crap, in our RV!
It is the Genesis surround sound, and it just seems like the antenna is not connected.
Has anyone else had issues?

Hello and welcome to the forum! More than one owner has found that the antenna was not connected to the back of the Genesis. You have to pop off the trim plate and then you will have access to four screws that hold the unit in. Pull it out and see if the antenna cable is laying behind it not hooked up.

If the antenna is hooked up and you still get poor reception, it might be the nature of the beast. I take along a portable radio and it usually picks up better than the RV unit. Some of the power converters have a hum that interferes with radio reception. Temporarily flip off the converter circuit breaker and see if your radio reception improves.

Good luck and I hope you find the forum helpful.

We also have a new 8289WS, and yes, join the club...radio sucks! Big time! When I am at home and want to catch a local AM station to catch a ball game, it's got a lot of static...the tiny little antenna on the dining room slide outside flips and extends a couple inches and that's it...it helped when, just for fun, I attached a clothes hanger to it, then it worked pretty good. But we have been 60 miles from home and can't get anything on the trailer radio, yet go out to the truck, and I can get all kinds of stations from here clear as a bell. They should have gone to a roof mounted antenna, works much better.

I followed ol' Rodeo's advice and used the television antenna and booster to pull in radio stations with my Genesis. Works great!

However, this will not work for us because we use the BR & outside TV hookups.

I would be interested in a third party antenna solution - anyone out there seen or heard of one?

Just replace the existing splitter with one that has an additional output. WALA. Status quo on the existing system with an additional output for the radio.

My 8289ws radio reception is horrible to. My camper is brand new, don't FR test these things? Why would they keep using the same crappy antenna. My dealer is supposably working with FR for a solution.

Agreed. See previous post -RodeoGeorge has a good idea - perhaps your dealer could do that for you?

The TV antenna and amplifier will work on FM and possibly on Weather Radio at 162.4 mhz but AM will not work or very poorly. I have the same issue, I am looking for a larger AM compatible external antenna, lead in would have to kept short for AM to work. A regular rod style antenna without an amplifier is best.

Where i camp I get 1 station only of manually tuned and there is no TV whatsoever.

My radio reception is bad too. The tv reception is great. My dealer is replacing the antenna and the Genesis reliever. It's on order from FR. I will keep you posted.

Seems like the poor to no radio reception is a trademark for rockwood and genesis. Hope a new radio helps it didn't with mine.
