Radio too loud
Just picked up our new WS8289. I was checking out the radio which is a iRV 66 and tried to adjust the volume down. On the lowest setting it is still too loud for our liking. Is this a common problem or is it our radio?

I have a rockwood 8282 and haven't had that issue. But my outside speakers aren't loud enough.

Our 2014 8289 is fine...must be a faulty volume control.

This radio has a lot of people unhappy. On the tech forum there are several people complaining. My Flagstaff is at the dealer right now for this problem plus others. It has to be up very loud to work. On low volume no sound, midway then the speakers cut in and out. Mine also plays CDs and DVDs too fast.

Ours is new and from 0-8 on the volume control there is no sound. How is the radio reception? We have a radio station 6 miles away and barely get it in let alone clearly.

I believe that this radio has so many problems that Forest River does not know what to do. It appears that every camper built in the last 4 months that has a IRV radio has problems. Some have reported they are on their 3rd radio and still have problems. Hopefully Forest River can get this fixed or a suitable replacement.

There is a thread on the forum by Rodeogeorge on how he hooked into the tv antenna for better reception. Sounds like there are lots of problems with this radio.

Contacted the dealer and they are going to order me a new radio. I can then take mine out and exchange. They said don't be surprised if the new one does the same thing as the company is still working on the solution. Wonder how long it takes them as there is a thread a year old about the same problems.

Hi Guys,
While this will continue to be a challenge for those affected, they have resolved the issue and all replacements going forward will correct the issues. The makers of the iRV are great people who stand behind their products and while it may take a bit of time for the information to filter to all the dealers, they definitely have this under control.
As you know FR builds a lot of TTs in a short period of time that ship all over the country so a challenge like this can have a life span that is artificially extended as units are on lots waiting to be purchased.
Please feel free to PM, email or call me for additional information. I will tell you what I can, but please know I do not work for (but with) the manufacturer (announcement to follow). As mentioned I do know they are good people and we all know that FR is full of good people as well. All stand behind their products!

Thanks Bob. Hopefully when I get the new one that will solve the problem. I'll post after I get it installed.

Just received a replacement radio from the dealer today. Installed it and had the same problem of being way to loud. Also when playing a DVD there is considerable static. Will be calling tomorrow. Talk about a lack of quality control!

We picked up our new 8244WS two weeks ago and just got home last night. Our trailer was ordered in February, arrived at the dealer's lot three weeks ago, and we picked it up a week later. So, it did not sit on a dealer's lot for months--it is brand new and just off the assembly line in March.
It has exactly the same problem with the IRC radio volume control. The only way we were able to endure using the excessive volume on our trip was to listen to the bedroom speakers while sitting in the living room. Otherwise, we would have missed the final game of the Final Four because the volume is so loud it would have deafened us to use the living room speakers. We also used it with the HDMI cable to play a video from our laptop, but could do it only by using the speakers on the TV and not the radio.
So, it may take a while to "filter down" the fix, but it had not filtered down to the Rockwood factory by March 2015!

I've been in contact with Patrick and they sent me another radio that he said they had bench tested. I installed it and have exactly the same problem, too loud. I then talked with them and he said he knows it's a problem but they can't replicate it on the bench. So I sent the previous radio to them for testing and he said the factory rep would be their next week.

Personally, I think outside radio speakers and TVs ought to be banned. When I'm out in the country, enjoying the peace and quiet, the last think I need is some encephalophallic playing either a radio or TV outside his rig at a volume that can be heard 5 miles away.
If you want to listen to radio or TV, either do it inside your rig or use a headset. There's enough noise pollution in the world without deliberately adding to it.

We have had our 2015 Rockwood 2304DS for 5 weeks and are on our second radio/dvd unit. The first made no sound at all when we tested it during the Pre-Delivery Inspection so a replacement was ordered immediately. Because it made no sound, I was unaware of the "too high on low" volume issue.
A new unit was installed last Friday and it has the "too high on low" volume problem. On the lowest setting the volume is way (by a lot) too high. I am contacting the dealer again tomorrow.

I hope this gets resolved soon. This same problem has been reported by several since December 2014 and new units are still having the same problem. I hope to see something soon too!

I was told by Nelson from Patrick that they were meeting this week and that he would call me and let me know.
