An official recall has been announced. I just saw this on the RVPRO newsletter: Forest River Issues Recall, Trailer Tire May Contact Floor | RV Industry News

My dealer's warranty rep followed up on this for me today. Now that's quick. He said Forest River informed him that my 2013 Windjammer unit is not involved in the suspension recall.

He also said Forest River will contact a recall-affected owner by mail, so it's important that my address be kept up to date.

Since my 2809W unit, with an inch and a half of tire clearance in the wheel well, is not recall eligible, I suspect either tolerance is closer than that or another factor involved.

Sorry about the delayed response to you. The Forest River / Rockwood warranty director is Greg Rollins his phone number is 574-642-8916 direct line. Most times I had to leave a message but always have gotten a response. Greg's e-mail is: grollins@forestriverinc.com

I would not feel comfortable without at least 2" of clearance between the tires and wheel well / deck, but that is just my humble opinion. You can gain approximately 5/8"-3/4" additional clearance just by jacking the trailer up on stands and loosening the fasteners that hold the axle assemblies to the trailer frame and let them drop in the elongated slots in the brackets. Put a steel or aluminum shim plate between the frame and axle mount and re tighten the fasteners. That is what I did before contacting FR about the issue and learned about the riser kits. The riser kits are by far the best way to get the clearance and you gain higher frame clearances for getting into and out of campsites. We had a bad drag this past Summer getting into an uneven site in Traverse City, Michigan.......almost tore off the rear jack and did some crumple damage to the sheet metal in the rear above the jack. This would not have happened if the riser kits where installed then.

Just saw this posted: http://rv-pro.com/news/forest-river-...-contact-floor

We have a '13 Windjammer. But it's currently buried behind 2' of snow at the storage facility. Can't get to it til snow melt.

I received the recall notice and my dealer is ordering the lift kit. The work will have to wait until spring for me to recover my Windjammer from storage, though.

I have a 3008W Windjammer and had a severe rubbing issue last summer. As a result Forest River had to replace my axles with ones with the right axle mounting brackets and they also installed the riser kits. In the process I discovered that Dexter recommends a minimum of 3 inches of clearance to allow for the axles to flex during operations. With my new setup I now have 3.5 to 4 inches of clearance on all wheels.

To Forest River's credit they responded quickly to my problem and they as well as my local FR dealer completely fixed the problem and came through with everything they promised. Kudos to the Rockwood customer service.

Recall work completed.

The recall work (lift kit installation) on my Windjammer appears to have resolved the problem. Our tire clearance in the wheel well, which was between 1" and 1.5" is around 5". While I had not been able to see above the tires very well (no clearance), the service man at the dealership said they noted a spot where a tire had "rubbed", but that there was no apparent damage to either the tire or the TT. I am glad Forest River acted on this issue before anything more significant occurred with our rig. You can (still) count me a happy customer.
