Rockwood 8281ss

I just purchased a 2008 Rockwood 8281ss used from a private seller. The unit was only used once and is in great shape. Only a few things to correct with the unit. First is one of the roof domes is cracked. Thats and easy fix. Second is the remote is missing for the LCD TV in the living area. Third is when I picked it the battery was dead. I plugged it in to shore power and was able to raise and lower jacks. When i got home i left it plugged into truck to park and operate jacks. I left it plugged in for a while and the battery didnt charge. The water level is good. Did i blow a fuse or breaker. The guy said the battery was only a few months old. The last thing is where would I get manuels for the RV and its components. They were not in the camper. I will post some pictures over this weekend when I give it a nice bath.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the 8281SS!

If you are depending on the power center in the trailer to recharge the battery, it will take quite awhile. Depending on the size of the battery, it could take two or more days to recharge a completely dead battery. Even though the battery is relatively new, if completely discharged it can drastically reduce the life of a battery.

As far as manuals, there is no 8281SS specific manual. Forest River (and most other RV manufacturers) just give a basic instruction manual which doesn't really tell you anything and then a stack of manuals for each specific component from its manufacturer: AC, water heater, microwave, stove, axles, brakes, etc. Most of those are available on line, you just have to look up what you have.

Good luck and happy camping.

Thanks. Guys.
I am going to go around an write down model numbers and look for the manuels on the web. I think i am going to just go ahead and get a new battery or maybe possibly 2 of them. Hoping to take her out he shortly for a trip. Things are just so busy with no time to get it ready.

Try the contact below. I also purchased a used 2007 and there were no manuals. However, this manual only covers very general information, but it only cost $5.00.

Hope this helps.

Hello
I had a similar issue with mine in regards to the battery. I picked the camper up after a trip to the dealer and the battery was dead. Hooked it up to my truck to power the jacks and still nothing. I found that had a blown fuse on my vehicle and it would not allow voltage from the truck to the camper. Also, have you checked to see if a battery disconnect was installed? It might be off. The user manual issue bugged me too. I have an 8281ss, 2011 MY, and there are some unique things about our campers that are not covered in the "general" manual.

Good luck and happy camping!
