Reason I ask is RV Direct is just a front for Orlando RV; a dealer I'm very familiar with.

The bottom line, no matter how you slice it or try to make it work...the F150 simply does not have the payload capacity to handle the 8289WS pin weight. Even if you take the low rated dry pin weight given by the manufacturer, it alone, exceeds the payload capacity of the F150, and you haven't added an ounce of other cargo yet.

Not really true. There are F150 with a lot of payload north of 2,500 lbs. Of course some have only 1,200 lbs payload. All depends on configuration with cab size, engine, hd max package or max tow package.

True only for the standard F150. The max tow package (among many other tow features) puts it up beyond 2500# with a tow capacity of 12,300#..........and that includes the 6 cyl ecoBoost which is what I have. The 8280WS tows very nicely.

And remember that the 8280WS and 82xx series are a very light weight 5th wheels.

Your 12,300# must be a typo...none can tow past 11,300#.

You May be correct for the standard F150 , however if you have the heavy-duty trailer towing package put on your F 150 and change the differential, you can tow up to 11,800 pounds.

We have an F150 SuperCrew King Ranch, The Ecoboost engine, with the heavy duty trailer towing package on it & a limited slip differential. We have absolutely no problem towing the 8289WS - with full tanks, the basement completely loaded, a fridge full of food and cupboards well-stocked... we have no problem going up steep grades, and you can scoot down the highway at 70 miles an hour with no problems at all ( and pulling all of about 2000 RPM :-)

Actually if you look at the specifications in the Ford F1 50 owners manual, Ford claims to be able to tow up to 16,500... but you'd never get ME to pull that much with a 1/4 ton pickup :-)

There are builds of the F-150 with payload above 2000lb, in fact I own one (Max Tow combined with HD Payload). My payload is 2177lb. I also pull a 5'r with it as can be seen by my sig. The combo has been scaled a number of times and I am UNDER every single rating.

There are VERY few builds out there like this and it is quite rare to find one on a lot. Most have to be ordered this way.

Careful with blanket statements about the ability of the "F-150" to handle a rig such as the 8289WS. While it is definitely true that most builds won't safely do it and will be over ratings, but not all of them will.

As said above not all F150 are created equal. I have left out the reg cab F150 as they are the ones not very likely used for 5th wheel hauling.

No, the F150 is a 1/2 ton not a 1/4 ton.

Since the "1/2 ton" type of designation refers to the payload capacity, some of the "F150" trucks are way over 1/2 ton. They are, of course, free to name them whatever they want.

A VERY good point! We had our rig built to order from Ford with the express intent of towing a lightweight 5er. Takes 3-5 weeks from the factory but you will have a rig that can easily tow a lightweight 5er.
