Sure wish Rockwood would have reversed the location of the bunks and the washroom in the 2504S. A small outside kitchen could then have been an option. From what I've seen, there is no layout like this one with an outside kitchen which is one thing we would have loved to have. FR doesn't make a unit with an outside kitchen in a smallish TT that meets our needs and wants unfortunately and we definitely want to stay with FR.

Must-Haves for us:

-access while travelling (slides closed) to the washroom and the fridge
-murphy bed with daytime couch
-counter space for food prep
-couch facing the TV


Questions:

YouTube videos I have watched have shown that there is an attachment on the outside wall under the awning for taking outside and mounting the included TV. Is that standard on the 2504S? I don't see it listed on the 2016 brochure under Standards and Options. Hoping it is at least an option!

The option of having night shades; do they block much light? I would have preferred the mini-blinds but they don't seem to be an option. Anyone able to post a pic of the night shades over a window?

I don't think I've ever seen one that doesn't have the outside mount for the TV. Night shades are OK but definitely don't block all light but do stop people from seeing in at night. Also my lower bunk didn't get the shade because (according to the dealer) its a safety issue since that is the emergency exit. if you are ordering one I would consider the roof ladder even though it didn't show as an option when we ordered ours and also I've read somewhere where you can get a stove that hangs on the outside rail in place of that POS BBQ (wish I knew this when I ordered). I was able to pick up a stove from a old pop up that was made to mount outside and has the quick connect gas fitting, but I usually set it on a table because its so high mounted on the track and I'm short. When have the kids along we take one of those small refrigerators along and plug it in outside. I also made an outside sink from a fish cleaning table, the faucet is hooked to the outside shower hose. I should have ordered the counter top extension for mine but didn't so I mounted a piece of track inside and use the outside table that comes with the grill as an extension. We pretty much had the same must haves. I would also add that there is plenty of inside and outside storage IMHO. Some of the mods I've made include digital thermostat, pull-out shelves in pantry, remove drawer under couch, blue streak toilet chemical dispenser, track to mount outside grill table as counter top extension, fireplace under TV and mounted portable power management under bunk.

Good to know! Can't be a very expensive option I wouldn't imagine. Do you recall how much it was? I'll make sure to ask for that also.

This late in the season it might be smart of us to order and wait for next spring. Not sure I can wait that long! We have about 4 full weeks total camping time this summer/fall already booked and I find our Roo 21RS to be lacking in space. Had to buy some memory foam for the mattress (which we haven't had a chance to use yet), but sounds like it will be a welcome addition to just about any new trailer we might look at!

The other TT contender is the 2304DS, but the biggest downer about that one is the fact that with the slide on the passenger side, you lose valuable under awning space. That coupled with the extra storage in the 2504S and also the fact that from time to time we have one of our young adult kids come camping with us.

You have some great mods there! Will probably steal some of your ideas for sure!! How did you wire up the portable power surge protector? It is a much cheaper option than the hard-wired one we have in our Columbus.

the power wire from the outside connection is in the wall that houses the TV/radio. That little storage compartment (where I mounted the fireplace has a false back/side. once removed you can access the power wire. I just unhooked the wire from the outside connector and attached a 30a RV receptacle. Bought a 3' piece of flexible wire, attached one end to the outside connection and put 30a RV plug on the other end. Nice thing is I can take the protector out and check the power before hooking up. once it shows everything is ok I put it back and hook up. also if it ever went bad I can bypass it by pulling the excess out of the wall and plug into the receptacle.

I guess I should clarify. There is indeed a bracket outside on our 2504S, just not the mount that attaches to the TV.

You're supposed to take the inside TV off it's mount, carry it outside, and put on the outside mount. If you want a 2nd TV, you'll have to buy the part that goes on the TV.

Several of us have replaced the inside mount with a permanent one from any number of sources (I got mine from Wal-Mart). Remove the mount from the factory Furion TV and attach it to whatever TV you want to use outside the camper.

The way I figured, there was no need to spend $100 on a second removable mount from the Forest River supplier when I wouldn't be removing the inside TV if I had a TV dedicated to the outside.

How do I go about running the furnace? Also how do I get the grille off the back of the fridge? Sorry for the newbie questions.

Just move the thermostat to Heat and set the temperature.

The outside grill has a couple of thumb screws and it should open right up but I have not needed to open mine

All little more detail on the grille:

Use a coin, key or screwdriver to turn the "thumbscrews" 90 degrees (from horizontal to vertical, as I recall). Then you typically have to stick your fingers up into the openings in the grille and PULL HARD to get the grille out. It rotates out from the bottom.

Closing it, you insert the tabs at the top and rotate the bottom inward. You usually need to wiggle the thumbscrews until they go into their holes, then turn them 90 degrees again. Make sure the fridge drain line is sticking out through the holes in the grille.

One more question for some reason the put the tag holder on the tail light on the ladder side and the tag will not fit. I thought I could just swap them but is there a connector for the light or will I have to cut the wires and splice?

I'm 90% sure you'll have to splice. Most of these kinds of tail lights come with pig tails, not connectors.

Eclipse, how do you like the 2504s? We just love ours. One thing to watch out for is the bottom feet of the murphy bed has 2 round rubber pads that are supposed to protect the floor. Instead they will put dents/ holes in the floor very quickly. Swing out the bottom part and look. I made and stained 4inch wood blocks then screwed them on and glued carpet to the bottom of the blocks. At the very least remove the rubber pads and use a towel or rug under the feet when the bed is in use. I got lucky, most of my dents in the floor came back to the original shape. Jay

On a day like today I really appreciate the indoor storage for the camper. It has alReady snowed 8-10" and now has been raining since last night. I can't see out the house windows due to the ice buildup. The indoor storage is a simple uninsulated and unheated pole shed. It does great at keeping the weather extremes and the sun off.
