I initially said "Our 2509 has a tongue weight of 800#. It was weighed when the specialty shop installed the WDH. The trailer has 2 full LP tanks and a front mounted LPI bike rack as well as the WDH items. Brand of WDH is Reese."

Found out that the dealer filled the fresh water tank before we picked it up, so that would add weight to the tongue!!

In reality it's probably around 700# - but in talking with a rep at etrailer.com he told me I was better off getting an 800# WDH instead of the 600#, so that's what I ended up doing FWIW...

I had a Reese WDH added from a specialty truck shop and they recommended a 1,000#

If you are filling your potable water then maybe, otherwise I think 1000# would be too much for a WDH and not be as helpful. To go from 5,000 lb dry weight to 1000# tongue weight is a big jump. Then again, I just did the math and didn't get mine weighed.

I'm pulling with an F-150 with ecoboost, and it does just fine.

For the millionth time, the concept of dry weight is about the same as the concept of the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and Chupacabra ... often mentioned, never actually seen. It's one of the single most useless numbers concocted by man. Ignore it.

These trailers have GVWR of around 6,500 lbs. Figure on being in the 6,000 - 6,500 lb range. At 13%, this puts your tongue weight at 780 - 845 lbs. So, yes, 1,000 lb bars are the way to go.

Newer 1/2 tons (e.g., F150), properly equipped, should handle this trailer just fine. A family of four, fully clothed, is going to weigh around 600 lbs. WDH weight 100 lbs. Tongue weight 800 lbs. 200 lbs of wood/bikes/gear in the bed. 100 lbs for aftermarket options (stereo, light bar) and in-truck gear (bags, dogs, etc.). That's 1,800 lbs of payload -- it adds up quick. So, you want a payload rating to match. Older F150s (like mine) have payload ratings in the 1,300 - 1,500 range, typically. Not great. I can't put anything in my bed or my truck when I tow -- strictly people and trailer.

Good luck.

I agree. These trailer while lite-ish they have heavy tongue weights due to the way they are designed with axle placement as well as the Murphy bed and larger LP bottles. I pick mine up tomorrow and will have a hitch with 1k bars. I also plan to have 2 6v batts so that will another 60 to 80 lbs to the toungue weight. Rockwood isn’t chasing the 10% TW that other manufacturers do in order to make their trailer more towable on paper.

We typically tow in the nude, so I think we'll be ok

X3. I will be using the 1,000 lb. Equalizer bars on my factory ordered 2511S which is near the same specs as the 2509S. My TV is a 2014 F150 EB.

The "dry weight" number was meaningless as soon as we started putting stuff in our 2509s when we brought it home. Don't know why anyone pays attention to it.

Our dealer installed our WD hitch with 800 lb bars. I tow with a '14 Chevy 1500 with max tow package. We just returned from a 3,600 mile trip from MN to FL and had no issues at all! I've said in other posts though that I would never tow this trailer with anything smaller. IMO some people get misled by the "mini lite" in the name, and think they can tow with anything. My advise to anyone....get the right TV and set it up the right way, and all will be good.

The payload on my 2005 F150 is so ultra-crappy, I'm considering nude. I feel like a professional bicyclist trying to shed weight off his bike ... carbon fiber mirrors ... or back when people raced off-the-lot Mustangs and Camaros and got them with radio-delete options. Ugh. I hate my truck. Denis Leary lied to me.

Now, don't blame poor Denis Leary!
He wasn't doing Ford commercials back in 2004/2005.[emoji6]

My TV is in my sig. Went from 17mpg empty to 12.2 last trip out w/ the TT. Plenty of power, not near enough hardware to keep the exhaust temp under control though.
I'm running 1k lb bars and still tinkering w/ the washers on the hitch.

So I just saw a video on Youtube about an update to the 2019 2509s , anyone see these new updates? From what I could tell the outdoor kitchen was updated to a table top grill type stove, and the sink removed. Looks like a leatherish type of interior option, and the appliances looked a little more modern. Kinda sucks, since we just bought our new 2019 2509s back in July. Had I known about the upcoming changes, I would have waited. However I think I would still want my outdoor sink. Oh well....
