Rockwood Signature 8312SS Owners

Hi everyone,

We just traded our 2012 Wildwood 285BHXL for a 2016 Rockwood 8312SS. Currently have a 2011 Ram with Hemi, 4:55, airbags etc. I am concerned about the truck handling it somewhat but we are pretty much always travelling local (<2hours) and flat land...Can't upgrade the TV till next year. Anyone pulling this rig with a similar TV? Any pics of it hitched? Also looking to hear about any mods that people have done...Thanks in advance!

Doobias,

My opinion.......

Your trailer is about 300 pounds heavier than ours and tongue weight is similar. We pull with a 1/2 ton Tundra. It is a load but within truck specs for us. Know your truck weight specs in advance and stay within them. You may not have room for much more weight in your truck but it should be doable. Make sure you invest in a good quality hitch and make sure they set it up correctly. Educate yourself on hitch before picking up your unit. Voice of experience speaking.

Thanks for the info...I know I'm within my TV's spec and plan to upgrade to a 2500 next year. I agree with you and are looking up my hitch to begin reviewing it.

I have a 2016 8311ws, I use a 2500HD with a Anderson hitch. I think you will be fine,I've seen so many campers in the camp grounds using trucks like yours. Everyone I've talked to gets along great at least that's what they say.

We have a 2015 Rockwood 8327ss similar to your model. Have a 2014 RAM Hemi 1500. It will tow your camper with no problems. We have been all over the North Carolina mountains and have had no trouble towing the 35ft ( plus) camper!! The 1500 works fine!!!!

We have the 2014 version (8310SS), and pull it with an F150 with ecoboost and Max Tow package. Took it to the scales LY on our first trip to Banff and were ok all around (once I tweaked the tongue weight slightly by raising another link on the chains). Have pulled about a dozen times LY with no issues other than wind gusts (I was a newbie LY) - I am adding a second sway bar this spring to accommodate that. Without major winds or hill climbs near Calgary, I rarely felt the TT behind me. Just make sure your WDH is set properly and I suggest the 2nd sway bar since you are pulling 35'.

Enjoy your 8312. We LOVE ours!

I also am towing the same trailer with the 2015 and I feel like I am getting pushed around even with the slightest wind. I'm using the E4-Equalizer and believe it is set up correctly. Everything is torqued right and the truck is level.

I am leasing the vehicle (which is good because I think I might go 3/4 or 1 ton for the next one) but are their things I can do while I am under lease to help?

I am going to get weighed again this year and see how much my habits have changed (as far as packing).

thanks!

Just bought one myself. My Ram is a 1500 5.7 Hemi Big Horn. I brought it home seems fine. I also have a blue ox weight distribution system with sway control. Tows really level. I'll upgrade next year.

Update

Well I bought the Husky Centreline WDH and ended up coming home with 30 mph crosswinds and freezing rain...not a perfect scenario! I can tell you though that the rig combo handled extremely well and I was very impressed. I understand that it was empty and that my air bags were set at 22 psi but all in all I was pleased.
