I guess I've been one of the lucky ones, 2 TT over 15 years and never had that problem. I hope the new TT steps stay in place. Nice to know it is something to watch for.

Check the rivets that hold them together. If cracked, replace with ss bolts and ny/lock nuts. Flop open? Snug 'em up.

I am in the "Never happened to me crowd" and, frankly, can't figure out HOW they could open up. When you correctly close the steps, they lock "down" and when you open them you have to lift up and out to retract the steps.

My suspicion is the steps were not completely secured prior to departure OR there is a defect in the step assembly itself.

If any of the people that have experienced steps opening in transit are going to Goshen, make sure you list that issue as a repair item for the techs to look at.

THIS is prob correct answer; ours opened once while leaving campsite, DW had not pushed them hard enough to lock down..

I am now wondering if we perhaps did not have our steps locked down properly. I think I will pay better attention when folding them away and not use our bungee. I will closely watch while driving to see if they open again.
Thanks

There are many different kinds of steps. Ours don't lock.

Sorry, but wouldn't use ss bolts, they are soft. I would recommend at least a GR 5 or better yet, a GR 8 and nyloc nuts.
