Rockwood signature ultra-lite 8289WS

We have a 2013. I am very disappointed with the insullation. I don't think.it has any. Very hard to cool down and we have an upgraded AC. When I open the cabinets on the outside wall, it is like an oven. Also the bedroom and bathroom is too small. Can't wait to find another with better layout

We went from the 8289ws to the 8299bs. The bathroom is pretty much the same but the bedroom is larger with the bed slide. The living room is longer and I love the larger refrigerator. We really like the differences between these two similar layouts.

I wish we could upgrade from our 8289WS to the 8299 but the Canadian Dollar on exchange is a killer.That trailer has the double fridge, bed on slide, heavier axles and bike rack, all thing we would like.

Looking at a Columbus 325RL as well.

As far as insulation I find in the summer heat it takes many hours to get it cooled down with 1 AC.

I don't think this trailer is much different than most...they all have very thin walls which allow them to heat up very easily...works the other way too...they are tough to keep warm when out in cooler weather. Surely there are some out there that have an extra amount of insulation such as those labelled with "Arctic Package"...but those certainly are not the norm.

We have 2 a/c units on ours and also had it on the 8289ws. Definitely helps cool it down when it is super hot out. I know it would be a struggle with just one to cool initially. After it does cool down one normally can handle the heat.

Ultralights have thinner walls, ergo less insulation. Duh. Suggestion: line exterior wall of all cabinets with reflective bubble insulation. helps a lot and very inexpensive. Just staple to the walls and you now have R-7 that you did not have before.

Also keep in mind that these AC units are not like a home AC. They only cool down 17 - 20 degrees below outside temp, and it takes awhile to do that. So if it's 100 out, you'll take awhile to get to 80 inside and still feel uncomfortable. Just a fact of life, does not matter what unit you own.

Don't go south to camp, come on up here to Canada! It doesn't get as hot on a regular basis (although as I write this it's 85°F and feels like about 102°F with the humidity) so your single AC may do a better job.

We sold our 2014 8289WS last week and should get our 2017 Arctic Fox 27-5L by the end of the month. No more to hot or too cold issues.

It sounds like you had knowledge issues on the present RV! Did the Bathroom and Bedroom shrink after you bought it?

Youroo, if you're a first time TT owner, you don't necessarily recognize how small the bathroom and bedroom can feel until you've spent a weekend in it. Once you've spent some time living in one you should have an idea what you need in the next one. If the OP had a TT or another 5er before the 8289WS, I would agree with you.

YOUROO, We didn't find the bathroom to small but there was a heat issue when the temperature got in the 90's. With only one 15,000 BTU air conditioner it couldn't catch up until the sun set so it got Very uncomfortable in the RV during the day. SOOOOOO saying that we plan on heading south when both of us retire and we have to think about the pets when it gets hot during the day and we have to leave them home. We also like to camp very late in the fall and it gets very cold sometimes so I'm hoping the Arctic Fox will fill the bill. We should have it in time for our August vacation. Dkjones28 take a look at the Arctic Fox 29-5T it may be just what your looking for.

Thanks or the advice and I will look at the Artic Fox. This is our 3rd rv. We went from a 40 ft Phaeton to this Rockwood due to health issues with my better half. The downsizing is quite an adjustment

Itat,the OP with the "Shrinking bath and bedroom" are in their 3rd RV,Not rookies,so Thanks for agreeing with me!

We had an 8269ws and now an 8282ws. Bedroom and bathroom were the same. We ordered the bigger AC for the 8282ws. The bed is a residential queen and the bathroom is not a problem with one person, at a time, using it. We are by no means small people and do not live in the bedroom or bathroom. The back section is nice and large which suits us perfectly. The insulation in the Signatures suck but we found the heating and cooling system are good and keep us comfortable. Would we trade our 8282 - no way. It has everything we need.

We find that cooling is a problem, but we leave both A/C units on at a reasonable temp (78) and it cools nice over time. Not like home of course. We've run into cold weather and the built in fireplace is a real bonus. I agree that the bath and bedroom are small, and I'm a plus size guy. But each unit has a trade off and I really like this one. We don't have the Arctic package but we get alone.
