Rockwood vs. Grey Wolf

Hello,

I am thinking about buying either the Rockwood 2702SS or the Grey Wolf 27BHKS. I have not been to a dealer to do a walkthrough on these models, just have looked at the pictures on the internet. These two have pretty much the same floor plan (a few minor differences). I was just wondering if anyone had input on the difference between the Rockwood and the Grey Wolf brands.

I dunno, but my Grey Wolf is pretty nice for the money.

There is a good chance you may not get an unbiased opinion, as those who own Rockwoods will no doubt tell you how nice they are, and the same for the Grey Wolf owners.
When we were shopping for our new fifth, we looked at literally hundreds of units. There simply is no substitute for seeing them in person. Only you can judge the quality for your own satisfaction.
Good luck with whatever you buy!

I went with a grey wolf and have no complaints. Compared many at an RV show and the GW is lower priced so I checked out the important stuff- structure, build quality, etc.

What we found out on the first night was the only light switched are on the lights themselves- so our kids couldn't turn on a light at night to go to the bathroom.

There are blocked off area that could be drawers and doors in the cabinets.
The mattress is 'lumpy' (got a memory foam cover for it for this year).
The water heater is gas only, manual start.

Are those big things? No, and they can be changed fairly easily later one.

I can't say if rockwood would have the upgraded water heater, or stove, or easily accessible light switches, etc - and only you can decide if these things matter.

If we can do 2 to 3 weeks a year in it that's outstanding. I can 'rough it' for that amount of time. If I was full timing it I'd look at things differently.

My lights can be turned on or use the main switch at the front, my water heater is gas and electric with auto ignite. I agree the mattress sucks! lol.

As far i've seen the Grey Wolfs are aluminum-sided wood-framed TTs and Rockwoods are fiberglass-sided aluminum-framed TTs.
Thus the Rockwoods are more expensive to make and are considered a step above the Grey Wolf line.

At the end of the day, all that really matters is whether you like both the camper and the amount paid for it.

My first TT was a Grey Wolf 28BH and we were very pleased with it. For the price I paid, it was a great camper (we never had any issue other than a bubble in one of the decals which was replaced under warranty). Ultimately, we decided to sell and purchase a Rockwood due to the little things that Rockwood had over Grey Wolf (like the upgraded Serta mattress and our grey wolf's slide was a step up from the main camper floor - it was not flush with the floor when extended).

Go and walk through them and see if the price of each is in balance (in your opinion) to the value you feel that you will receive from the TT. Pick the one that has the highest value to cost ratio for you.

Good luck with your decision and enjoy your time in the TT!

trade you water heaters!

The bedroom and bathroom lights are only operable from the light itself in our trailer. A bit too much of a reach for an 8 year old.

Grey Wolfs are also available with fiberglass siding. This was a $1500 option when I bought mine.

Sounds like the kids need an LED push lite about 3 ft off the bathroom floor.

When I was looking at mine I specifically asked if that water heater was gas and electric and she said yes. When I went to pick it up I asked where the electric switch was for it. The shop guy said "well this doesn't have that" I went into the office and said that the my sales lady specifically told me it had it. Liberty RV in Missouri almost lost a sale because my sales lady literally threw a 2 year old temper tantrum acting all bitchy and ran to the back room where she was yelling all kinds of crap. Luckily her brother, the manager, checked the lot and they had another one in stock with the gas and electric heater in it. The manager said that she should have never said that without physically checking to see if it had it. Everything worked out, but her temper tantrum and poor manners almost made me not want to give them a single penny. I had been tired of looking and the Grey Wolf had the most features for the money so I went with it. Grey Wolf's aren't cadillacs or the top of the line, but for the money I think they are excellent.

Unless they've changed, Rockwood Signiture Ultra Lite's have a full aluminum frame (including roof trusses) and 5/8" plywood flooring. The only downside that I've found with my Rockwood is it is poorly insulated.

we bought ours at a show and didn't ask (or know to ask) some of those questions.
We do have a number of options (rear rack, ducted a/c, bathroom skylight, elec awning are ones I remember).

MY wife's happy with cold water. I don't mind lighting it -once. The pilot blows out too often so I have to light it daily. Camco sells a heating element for $90ish I"ve been considering. Not looking forward to doing the needed wiring. Same for elec start, not that it's easy to find that upgrade. The whole unit can be replaced for a princely sum. Cold water it is.

When you run your hot water heater does it get so hot that water will drip out of the pressure relief valve?

can't say I've noticed that.
We just got ours last year and didn'ut use the HW most of the time - I'd turn it on for a shower or to do the dishes.
I do know the hardest thing about the whole camping thing has been getting the anode into the water heater. There's thread here recently with some good tips - maybe I can do it in under an hour this year.
The year we'll be camping for 10 days - will likley experience all sorts of new things -like running out of propane perhaps! LOL

Also may go to a state forest for a long weekend and boondocking. Life without a microwave...does it exist? LOL

It will take a lot to run out of propane in my opinion. I can go a long long time on the two tanks.

They must have changed the floor after 08,I had to fill in the opening in the floor where they cut, drilled, chainsawed, holes for wires, pipes, mice, ect. The flooring was 3/16 luan, 1-1/2 styrofoam, and 3/16 luan a long way from 5/8 plywood. Youroo!!
