Room heaters not working

Hello, we are on the road with our brand new 30 ft Rockford ultra lite and the gas and electric room heaters not working. Water heaters and gas stove work fine. Gas mode shuts in 20 seconds the electric mode is loud but very little cool air flow. Any suggestions to fix problem. Dealer suggested check exhust... no air flow hot or cold. Where is the furnace located? Thanks

I have no idea what a room heater is. To locate the furnace go outside and look for the vent outside. about 3 or 4 inches wide and 5 or 6 inches tall. usually a metal grill plate with circle holes behind. (not the large water heater panel) once you find the vent outside the furnace is inside in that location usally hidden behind a panel/cabinet under steps or furntiure

Welcome to the forum rangerat, I see it is your first post.

Please tell us what make and model you have.
A 30' Rockwood (not Rockford) Ultra Lite could be any of several models.

As mentioned 'room heater' isn't a term we are familiar with especially since you said they operate on both gas and electric.

Always post as much information about the device as possible (including its make/model) and anything you have done to try to make it operate.

Also, go to the User CP (control panel) section and set up a signature line with your R/V information and it will be in every post. (unless you use a mobile device)

See mine below as an example.

If you found the exhaust, you found the furnace. It’s through the wall from the burner intake/exhaust.
How many water heaters do you have?

If by electric room heater you are referring to the electric element in the roof mounted AC, then it may be working, They are really only a chill chaser and will not do much to heat an RV. As for the propane furnace, there is a safety switch that goes into fail safe mode if the furnace fails to start in three tries. To reset this, pull the fuse for the furnace and wait a few minutes then replace it. If the furnace has not been run before either by you or during prep, it will lilely smell and smoke some as it burns off the oils from manufacturing. Be prepared. If you have the chance, it is best on a new RV to open the doors and windows and rrun the furnace for about 30 minutes. to burn off the oils. When the furnace operates, it runs the fan for about 20 seconds to clear it out and insure the fan runs, it will then activate the propane solenoid and igniter. You should be able to hear the igniter clicking. If the flame sensor does not detect a flame in a short period of time the furnace shuts down For more info on trouble shooting, look under the library section / heating and cooling / troubleshooting tips.

In addition to what Flybob mentioned about the A/C element or sometimes a heat pump option, is to keep in mind some A/C units have the option to run the A/C blower during furnace operation. It will seem like the A/C unit is blowing cool air but the A/C compressor is not running, just the fan. It isn't a problem or an issue, it is a feature.

The thought process is warm air from the furnace rises and the A/C blower will help distribute that warm air throughout the R/V. You can turn this feature off (if equipped) by going into the fan settings of your digital thermostat and selecting Auto (AU) instead of Low or High.

If your unit is really brand new and no time in it, you could be waiting for propane to work its way to the furnace, pushing out the air in the lines. I had to restart mine 3 or 4 times before the propane pushed out all the air and the furnace ignited.

I'm not aware of any Rockwoods that have electric "room heaters".
The only thing close to that is the a/c heat pump.
Otherwise, the only "room heaters" are the propane furnace ducts.
Doesn't sound like you received a good PDI/walkthrough.

Some models do have electric fireplaces so 'maybe' an electric room heater.??

Until the OP returns with additional information we are simply guessing.

And I agree... another poor PDI/Customer Orientation on what the OP called a brand new unit. This industry has more room for improvement than any other I know which exists.

You probably do not need to extract/re-insert the fuse to reset the furnace control. On all the ones I've ever seen it is sufficient to turn the furnace to Off (from Heat) and then back to Heat.

If this is a new unit, you may need to do this several time to purge the air from the gas lines. Running the range and water heater helps but isn't complete if the furnace is beyond them on the gas line (as it is on some trailers).
