RV Mattress Question

Hi everyone. New to the forum (but not new to RVing). I just ordered a 2011 Rockwood 8280WS 5er and have a question nobody at the RV Dealer or Forest River seems able to answer. We purchased the "upgrade" Serta mattress and wanted to buy sheets and maybe a memory foam mattress topper for it (depending on the answers I get). Anybody know what the mattress height and firmness are for this mattress? Many thanks in advance.

we have the upgraded serta and use queen size sheets on it. purchased a 2" topper from Sam's Club. the topper really makes it a comfortable bed. I would sleep in it for a night or two to see if you need the topper. the mattress measured about 6" thick

RV Mattress Question Reply

TentCamper1,

Thanks you for the reply. According to the brochure, this is supposed to be a "residential" queen size mattress. I do not know of many quality mattresses that are only 6" in depth... I hope I am wrong.

The upgraded Serta mattress may be a bit better than the standard mattress, definately not residential quality. We have a 1" memory foam topper and still get a sore back. We're going to try a thicker mattress topper.

The standard mattress is really awful. The springs poke you. We absolutely need to do something! I'm interested in suggestions - sounds like at a minimum we need a thick mattress topper.

its about 4" short than a true residential mattress. buy a good quality topper.

Thanks Dave.. I just ordered a good quality 3in real memory foam mattrass topper. One reason we ordered our new Rockwood 8280WS 5er was from following your treads on this forum. You and Monica do a great service for all of us "newbies" to the Forest River/Rockwood line of RVs...

Thank you Wade and Cindy...glad to have helped. I'm sure you'll enjoy your Rockwood as much as we enjoy ours. If you have any other questions, send me a private message.

You guys are costing me money. My wife reads all these messages and she keeps adding things to her list to buy. If she keeps adding thing I may have to go back to work to pay for everything.
We just dropped $500 at Camping world the other day.

If your bed is an "east/west positioned mattress- headboard against a slide out, for example, then you most likely have a 75" length camper mattress, called a "short queen". That is what my V lite has, and I put a 3" memory foam topper on it, and sleep like a dream. Ordered it on e bay for 75.00- free shipping. Highly recommended! Randy (P.S. you can just cut off the extra length with scissors.)
