Shower Door Sweep Seal

Forest River should give several feet of the shower door sweep seal with every purchase of their RV's. In less than two months, the rubber sweep seal has split in two. I went to camping world in Houston, nothing in stock. Camping world said order it online, couldn't find the type online. Stopped at Home Depot, they carry some, but not the same type. I did find one that will work at Home Depot online and it will be delivered in a week or so. Until then, Duck Tape to the rescue again.

The one I ordered is not an exact duplicate, but I think it will work. I'll report back after it comes in.

Out of curiosity on my part what does the seal look like?
A 'V or a 'T or a double 'T?

The bottom shower door seal split the second week after taking delivery. The dealer took the top door seal and replaced the bottom and ordered a replacement. It was shipped to me and I will install it in the spring.
It is interesting to read of others having the same problem; not a huge problem but an obvious area that requires attention.

Idaho,
The original part has two guides that slide into the door frame, with a "flap"/"sweep" hanging on the inside of the door. That flap/sweep is what separated from the rest of the part. Without it, water leaves the shower. The replacement part I'm getting from Home Depot and which I hope works, is "U" shaped with a "flap/sweep". The U shape goes over the frame. I ordered two different sizes, because the part description said 3/8" or 1/2" thick glass. If it goes over the frame, then the glass dimension should be irrelevant, except my frame measures 7/16". Geez, you couldn't make this stuff up.

Both my top and bottom sweeps separated or I would have switched the top for the bottom. My guess is whoever installed it created a little rip and it just spread quickly. Once I find what works, you can bet I'll have an extra set in storage.

Ah, I understand.
I ask because that is probably the one thing in the bathroom I have not looked at(never thought about).
I need to go look at my tub of damp rid today so I will check it out.

Thank you.

Mine hangs up at the edge closest to the handle side and is starting to tear. I'm going to see if the dealer can't adjust the door this spring. I looked at trying but think the toilet might have to be pulled to swing the door wide enough to do it.

Has anyone been able to find a place to purchase these door seals? In emailed my dealer without a response, have gone thru countless web pages and can't find a duplicate.

Bob: I am aware you are not in the Ft. Worth area. BUT, to those that are or will be, United RV in Ft. Worth has the exact replacement strip. I purchased one for approximately ten dollars. I have not searched the internet for an alternative source.

2 trips...2 seals shot. One replaced under by dealer. The problem lies in door adjustment.

It's a pos design.

When we brought ours home after the PDI my daughter noticed ours, we were so worried about looking at everything else I missed that. I contacted the dealer and had went back a few weeks later to get it because it was stock and they showed they had stock but had none. They ordered it and shipped it to the house direct from Forest River.

I picked up our new 2904SS Ultra Lite today and asked the service tech during the PID about the shower door seals prematurely wearing out. He said that they recommend placing a padded C clamp on the top of the door opposite the hinge and the door frame when traveling. He says the shower enclosure flexes while going down the road and the opening is constantly going in and out of square and rubs the seal causing it to wear and tear. By clamping the top of the door to the frame, they claim it will stop the opening from going out of square. Kind of makes since so I will give it a try.

l001952119...
You were correct. United RV had the shower sweep I was looking for and is sending it to me. Talked to Deborah Lindsey there (817-834-7141) and she went above and beyond to help me out. She could teach some others about customer service!
If the rest of the dealership operates like her dept. it must be a great dealership.
Thanks again...Bob

Received my shower sweep from United RV today. Just what I needed. $12 with shipping. FR finally answered my email with a quote of $25to $30.
Also was told SEA (shower enclosures America) in Ontario , CA is the Mfg and will sell parts along with instructions to adjust door to prevent this. Emailed them also, no response yet.

United doesn't list it on their website that I could find. Call Deborah Lindsey at United. She's great and will ship it right out.

Now this is just what I was looking for. We just took delivery on 9/25 and left for a 7 night trip on 10/4. Our door sweep started ripping on the forth or fifth shower. Just over 500 miles if the door flexing is the problem. The seal pretty flimsy to me!

It is an item they stock in cut lengths and stock on their retail shelf. I suspect, by the packaging, they "may" cut the lengths from a roll. "MAYBE" they will sell in bulk lengths?
