Sights on a Rockwood 2604. What options to consider?

After two weeks of brainstorming my wife and I have decided (well, almost: we are still considering a Jayco White Hawk 27dsrl) on a Rockwood 2604. We love the two captain's chairs in the back, and it is within the towing range of our #7500 capacity Jeep GC.

The optional equipment we decided to add include: 15,000BTU a/c, chrome wheels, 32" TV, rear ladder, chrome wheels, slide topper, electric tongue jack, power awning, day/night shades and a "convenience package" that includes a bunch of stuff such as outside speakers.

Do any of you have any comments on these options or, possibly, other options that we should consider?

We were advised that we should shoot for a 30% discount under MSRP. Is this figure realistic?

Thanks for your input,
Andrew

We got all of those options except the 32" tv on our 2012 2604. Very happy with everything but wish we had ordered the larger tv. The 22" is a little hard to see from the 2 chairs (which I love). I think you will be very happy with your new rig.

Thanks for your comment. Since your unit is a recent purchase and almost identical to what we have under consideration, would you mind telling me the MSRP and the price you actually paid? We were told that we should shoot to pay 30% less than MSRP but, judging from the quotes we received (with the exception of RVW Wholesalers) we are nowhere near that price. Also the MSRP seems to be somewhat elusive: dealers make up their own.

We considered this unit as well. We really like the Atrium Window in the slide-out. And personally we didn't want the dinette and chose the free standing table and chairs.

Good Luck. I'm sure you will be happy in whatever decision you make.

Counter top extension is a must. Depending where you are you may want to reconsider 15,000 BTU AC. I have 13,500 & it is more than enough. I have a 2010 with a 19" tv which is no problem, but bigger is better. It may be more frugal to buy your own 32" later & put the smaller tv in the bedroom. Try to get the dealer to throw in Maxx Air covers & a cover for the Fantastic Create A Breeze Fan. If Lippert makes your power tongue jack you might want to look for an upgrade to that too. Personal experience plus a lot of forum reading says they are a problem.

As nice as the 2604 is and have owned a Rockwood I would get a signature series model if I ever did it again. Just too many extras that are missing on the lower line for small sum of money.
Not trying to offend anyone but for the money it costs it is worth the upgrade.

Agreed. Love my 2604, but if I were to do it again I'd have to say you're right.

I have a 2011 Model that we ordered.
I wanted 20lb propane tanks, three steps by each door with large assist handles, power tongue jack, convenience package, slide topper, vent coversday&night shades. Also ordered minimun carpet, this means no carpet in bedroom, easier to clean.
Rember factory can change standard features,so make sure your dealer is aware of what you want.

Thanks for your input. Jack, it sounds like you got a great deal! My local dealer quoted me $24,500 (he says the MSRP is $34,000 but I don't believe him). RVW Wholesalers offered $20,500, but I've read some horror stories about them, so I'm not jumping in.

It would save me money to get the smaller TV and replace it with a larger model. I would do that only if it was a simple matter and did not require any modifications.

The Signature series looks great, but it is not an option for me because of its weight.

Not sure where you live but tank heaters have come in handy for us more than once.

Outside BBQ and gas lines are handy.

Outside table that hangs on the BBQ rail.

Ipod/iphone adapter/plate to the stereo or maybe a sat radio if you like that kind of stuff.

Standard auto style 12v plugs if it doesn't already have them.

Specify and aluminum spare as well or you'll probably get the standard white wheel.

Other than that, I think you've pretty much got it covered for what I would order.

Oh yeah, one last thing; Tell them to NOT screw a cheap white plastic paper towel holder into your cabinets.....

I think you would find just as many satisfied customers with RVW. I purchased from them in May and overall it was a great experience and we saved a bunch of money. The staff was helpful and went over every detail of the camper. The only problem I have had with the camper is a bad TV, and they sent a new one out within a couple weeks.

I called the service rep that RVW told me would handle warranty work for me, if needed. The man confirmed that he indeed would accept the TV for warranty work. This, at least, satisfies me that I won't be stranded with no one to do repairs under warranty.

As it is now, RVW offered me a price that is $4,500 less than my local dealer. If I were to have the TT delivered to me, it would cost me about $2000. I will try to get my local dealer to drop his price $2000. If he accepts, I'll have the best of both worlds. If he doesn't, I'll opt for the savings and buy from RVW.

Thanks to all for your input.
