Signature 8314BSS questions
Firstly, this is 1st post on this forum and am contemplating this model Rockwood. We were very pleasantly surprised at how well we liked this model when we shopped it yesterday. Liked it much better than the Open Range Roamer. That said, one of the reasons I liked it was the geared slide mechanisms. It seems like I never see a negative comment on this type of slide, but the cable drive slide mechanisms do seem to elicit negative comments about all the problems...not only in the Roamer but others as well. It is lighter, sure, but is that all good? Do any owners have comments or suggestions about this issue? And how is your ownership experience of the signature line so far?

We have the 8317SS. Its an 08' unit. We've had good luck with ours. Also has the geared slide and we have had no problems with it at all. I would recommend the Rockwood line to anyone.
Happy shopping.

Like Iluv2fish, this is our first Rockwood and my first post. We, too, looked at the Open Range Roamer before deciding on the Rockwood 8314BSS. The cable used on the Open Range slide was a deciding factor for us. We had previously owned a TT that used the cable mechanism. While we never had issues with the slide opening or closing, we did have issues with the cable splitting the rubber seal. We had even used the silicone spray to maintain the seal, but to no avail. I must state that the Open Range did have a better design for the cable to penetrate the seal as opposed to the TT that we owned. I guess we were lucky we had no other issues.
We are very satisfied with our decision to purchase the Rockwood.

It sound like FR may have changed some things because my 2006 8314ss was in the shop 4 time because of slide out problems, for the slide out dropping on one side to bolts breaking and anything in between.

We have a 2010 8314BSS and love it. This was the first year for the bedroom slide and does it make an difference. If you put too much weight under the bed the slide has trouble going out. We did have a screw back out under the living room slide which sctrached the under side of the slide but we had it repaired and now there are no problems. We did own a 2007 2604 which had the bolt on the drive break but all I did was to replace it with a Grade 5 and then had no trouble. Our trailer tows great and has so much room. The only thing I would change is the size of the Gray tank.
We did change the bedroom door to a sliding door but it looks like the 2012 model has the sliding door. I would hope we where part of this change because we sent the factory pictures and my plans.
GOOD LUCK WITH PURCHASE

We bought a 8314BSS in Sept last year and love it! Very impressed with the quality, both materials and craftsmanship. We've been on 6 trips and spent 13 nights in it so far (with a lot more planned) and we've had absolutely no problems.

Welcome aboard! We love ours too. We have not been able to use it very much. I hope to make a 2nd trip soon.

We purchased ours at the Louisville Ky. RV Show two years ago. Picked it up first week of Feb. and proceeded to tow it 2200 miles on a trip to Florida. Had a screw back out on the slide and a leek in the city water inlet last year. Both are repaired and ready to roll. Does the 2012 model have the sliding bedroom door? I changed ours to a slider the first few months we owned it.

Went to the Louisville Show to see the 2012 8314BSS. It was a surprise to see all the improvements Rockwood made in just two years. Many of these I have made on our trailer. This is a great trailer for the money!!!!

Television Problems
Has anyone had a problem with the mount for their Television? Screws keep coming loose, worried that TV will fall off one of these times we're traveling.

We have not had any trouble with our TV. I do not even know how to take it out. I agree with your concern, with all the movment going down the road it would be likly to fall. You may want to check and make sure it was mounted into studs not just the paneling. Good Luck !!!!

Loose Screws
Another concern we've been having is loose screws or stripped screws on our cabinits. We've had doors fall off, and cabinits open. Any fixes?

Yes,remove wood screws that are striped or loose, dip wood tooth picks in wood glue and put in holes, fill it up with the tooth picks.let set over night. The next day trim off tooth picks even with the surface and place the screws back in the original location. There are a million loose screws in a R/V if you travel very much. Youroo!!

I know this is an older thread but I'd love to see photos on your modification on the sliding door. We have a 2010 8315BSS and this is one of the only things that leaves us scratching our heads at the designers. We love the pass through bathroom but navigating those those two doors gets a bit dicey when someone is at the sink!
Thank you for sharing if you can! ~ Dawn
