Signature Ultra Lite 8288wsa owners

We recently purchased a 2017 8288wsa fifth wheel. When we move the slide out, the slide facia hits the awning protective cover. The only way to deploy the slide is to first roll out the awning and then the slide. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just my camper? If your slide also hits awning, what have you done to fix the issue?

Sounds like someone (factory?) goofed during the awning install and didn't get it high enough.

I spoke to a factory rep and he stated all first run 2017 models were built this way and is not a mistake. His suggested fix is to install an awning cradle to lift the awning up over the slide. He also stated the second 2017 production runs have moved the awning higher up so the later models do not interfere with the slide.

Well to me, that's a nice way of saying it was a mistake.

Later models were changed. If it wasn't incorrectly mounted to begin with, why did they change it?

And, if installing an awning cradle is their solution to alleviate the problem on first run models, is the factory going to pay for that?

Forest River did state that they would install the cradle at no charge to me. My only concern is what happens if the cradle breaks from the added weight of the awning? I am stuck with the cost of this "add on" solution.

An awning cradle is designed to support the weight of the awning tube so I'm not sure what your concern is there? What is there to break?

If the cradle (once properly installed) keeps the awning tube & cover from hitting the slide, then your crisis is averted.

I also don't know how you would be 'stuck with the cost of this add on solution' if they told you they would install it at no charge?

Maybe I am over thinking this, but my worry is the cradle is designed to support the awning tube not lift it up 1 inch? Correct? I have not gotten a lot of responses, so it appears that 1. There are very few 8288 owners or 2. My camper is the only one with an awning that hits the slide.

I'm sure there are a number of owners floating around with the same issue. More likely few of them have joined this user group or they are not following the forum on a regular basis.

That FR is putting on the fix tells me many have complained.

Well, you have just now mentioned additional information that you didn't mention before and that is the awning has to go up an inch to clear.

Yes, the cradle is designed to simply support the awning tube. With that said, longer awning tubes can sag as much as an inch. But, if you need the entire awning to go up an inch, (not just the center where the support will mount) then you've got problems.

Still, if FR believes this will fix it, I would let them. We are guessing without photos or seeing it in person. Obviously FR must have seen a few of them for them to offer a fix.

In the end, you are the one that needs to be comfortable with whatever the outcome.

We have a 2016 8288WSA. When we did our walk thru we found that we couldn't open the curbside slide without partially opening the awning. Not to beat anyone up (which is easy) the awing was raised up under warranty and all is good. We love the layout and enjoy towing much more that any of the bumper pulls we've owned.

By raising the awning, did it leave a lot of exposed holes? How did they cover up the holes? Rockwood is proposing to leave the awning were it is, install a cradle, and warranty the awning fabric and replace it if it wears a hole in it.

The dealer had all the holes repaired and repainted when the awning was moved.
I honestly can't tell where the old holes are. In that respect, they did a good job on the awning and two other issues with the camper. However, for me, the process drug out for ten months until all things were resolved. This was a dealer issue, NOT Forest River.
IMO, if you are OK with Rockwoods fix , get it in writing and use your camper.
