Thanks for all the info guys, I use 2 bars in our super slideout and they go one to either end where the sticker on the wall shows to put it. Always used them while travelling but like Lou I never store or let it sit for long with them in. I think I will continue to use them as some of the info here confirms my fear of the slideout opening at the wrong time.

I can see not needing them as our slides come in top first and then the bottom lifts as it seats against the side of the trailer. The slide would have to go out at least an inch or so before the top started moving away from the wall so the locks seem kinda useless to me. Our old Edgewater did the same and it never had slide locks.

When I picked up the 2902ss from the dealer, they told me to throw the slide locks away. They said that if I happen to forget and rip the wall out, I'm SOL. They said that FR puts them in for liability reasons, but they've never heard of a slide releasing while towing.

We never use ours it is sitting in our garage, we took a class when we purchased our camper and they told us not to, but it was up to us. He said they have seen to may campers with damage because someone forgot to remove it before hitting the button. I guess there are pros and cons. It is more of a personal decision I think.

For anyone who doubts the usefulness of the slide lock bars, go inside your camper with the slide in, and give the slide a shove near the top. I think the answer will be obvious.
