slideout questions

Hi This is my first RV with a slideout. I have some questions about it. Does it need to be lubricated? It has a plastic gear and track. Also do the seals need to be lubricated? When taking the slide in and out at the end of the cycle I hear a grinding noise sometimes. Is there a clutch or is it going to strip the gear? I have the 2014 Rockwood mini lite 2502s with a sofa slide. Any comment will be appreciated. Thanks

Some noise is normal depending on the type of slide mechanism. It's likely just the motor taking up a little slack in the gears. Since it's a new trailer, I'm sure you have a big stack of paperwork that came with it. Find the paperwork for the slide system and it should list recommended lubricants and tell you when it should be done. There are a number of products on the market and you can just do a search on the forum to see a whole bunch of people arguing over which one is best. Seals and gears / tracks should be done a few times a year.

At the end of extending or retracting, you are hearing more of a ratchet sound which is the gear declutch to stop damage. You do not want to allow this to last long, stop as soon as it starts. Its actually the sprockets jumping over each other.
