Space about Fridge in 2502ks?

I just picked up my new 2502ks yesterday. I have a lot to do to get acquainted with everything on her as this is my first TT. Overall, there seems to be a lot of storage available, but I see a large panel above my refrigerator/freezer that seems to be begging me to explore. Is there anything behind this panel? Or is it possible I can make this into an additional storage location? Also the IRV33 stereo is the dumbest system ever. For 2 cents, I'd replace it with a quality 7" touch screen car A/V system, but it's new and I'm gonna try the warranty service route because I can never get enough frustration.

Normally if you have an RV fridge installed that space above the fridge is not used because of the heat from the fridge. You didn't say what the problem with the IRV was it does take a learning curve to get it working right. It is not a blueray player only standard DVD

Zone 3 volume is not adjustable. When selected it blares at full volume. Our service guy says that's not right. But his boss says that's the way they're supposed to work (???) and if we get it replaced, the new one will work the same way. Goofy.

The boss is wrong. We have the same irv33 unit and all three zones adjust with the volume knob. Your unit is definitely defective.

irv33 problem

Did you "select" Zone 3 or just turn it on. To select and control I believe you need to hold the button down until Zone 3 is highlighted on the screen. The you can select the input and control the volume.

OBVIOUSLY "The Boss" has NO idea what he is talking about. All three zones should have their volume regulated by the volume control. They all three will go up or down with your operation of the volume control. You cannot make zone C soft and zone A loud for example but all three should work.

Tell "The Boss" to get off his duff and get it operating as it should!

Space above fridge

Our trailer is a 23 ft. Love the trailer but storage was lacking. Like you wondered what was above fridge. We knocked the panel out and nothing there. The back of the fridge vented up the side of the trailer to an oblong large roof vent. We installed a false back about 14" or so back which left plenty of room for the fridge to draft straight up to the vent. Stained and varnished the inside to match our cabinets and found a nice basket for crackers and bread. Also made drawers for under the bed and dinette. Added a drawer in the kitchen, added a pantry and knocked out a blank in the bathroom and inserted a laundry hamper. I Love all my storage space now.

What holds the panel in? How difficult is it knock it out? Is it re-usable after it's been knocked out?

It was just glued and stapled in. We used a putty knife tapping it into the edges and gently prying all around. Yes, we were able to reuse the panel. It is slightly smaller than the width of the opening so you would need to frame it in front and back (You could also get thin Luan for the backer.) One frame to attach to and the other as trim. The inside sides were unfinished so we just sanded and stained. Be careful of the nails you use. The paneling on the sides is very thin. We used wood glue and a nail gun.

Thanks.

1 question: I don't understand how it can be slightly smaller than the width of the opening. Doesn't it have to be larger than the opening, and attached behind the framing?

There was about an 1" of trim framing on the front. The panel was not wall to wall.

OK. I only seem to remember the framing shown in your pic, no trim. But it's in storage at the moment. I'll have to look harder next time I'm camping.

Thanks.

Just checked my unit, I can independently control the volume on Zone 1 & 2 and then Zone 3. You can also have Zone 3 on a different input. You could play music inside on 1 & 2 and the TV on 3 outside. Just take some work getting used too, even when I think I have it all figured out.

No problem. We did some sanding for sure. I think there might have been a top piece and bottom piece edge strips we discarded. Left the side pieces. Memory is foggy on that part. These things are just slapped together by the manufacturer so nothing is square, they only thing they are generous with are the glue and staples.

My 2011 georgetown 327DS had, I believe, a space like that on top of the fridge and around 1"-1.5" free space on the sides. I discovered, during my first outing, that the fridge would run 24x7 attempting to cool but would never get below 55F. The dealer checked things out after I returned and discovered that the fridge was working properly but the problem was the installation.

The free space around the sides and on top was being heated by the sun striking the outside of the RV. The temperature of the air surrounding the fridge was well over 120F and was just more than the fridge's insulation could handle. The dealer fixed the problem by filling in all of the free space with insulation since the fridge installation instructions stated that it's a zero clearance on all sides unit. We've had no problems keeping things cool, even when in NM where daytime temperatures often reach over 100F and the sun is shining on the fridge side of the RV.

The space above the fridge is valuable space and doesn't get hot (at least in my 233s). Use it as open storage, or something creative.
