Thanks to the younger generation

Wife and I have been out 4 times in our new Windjammer this season and have used the radio only. Haven't been able to pick up any television stations where we have camped so far. Probably a blessing. Anyway, next week we take our college aged daughter and her friend with us for their last blowout before returning to campus. They want to watch movies. So out to the driveway to see if I can figure it all out. Never got close to getting a picture from the DVD but did get sound. Daughter comes out, hits one button and we are in the theater! God Bless the young-uns!

Glad you got your DVD working.

IF you've never gotten any TV reception I wonder if you're turning on the little
antenna booster?
Look for a tiny button next to the antenna connection in the wall.
Push the button and a little LED should come on.
If you don't have this on, you will not get any TV reception via the antenna.

Thanks for the tip KyDan. I'll have to look for that. We get great receiption at the house (we live in the country south of Kansas City) without the antenna even being raised but once we get to our sites--nothing. I'll have to see where the antenna connection is as the TV is mounted in the entertainment center. We don't have a TV in the bedroom slide and those connections are out in the open and easy to get to.

What you're looking for might look something like this---

You may or may not have the satellite socket but you should have the
coax antenna fitting and the little push on/push off button next to it.
When it's on there is a tiny LED which might be red or green that will
come on.
Mine is mounted in such a way as the coax totally hides the little on/off
button. If I did not know it was there I'd never have found it.

Hopefully someone here with a similar RV as yours will chime in and tell
you where to look.

the antenna booster switch is located in the left cabinet below the tv on the left side wall, also remember to turn off the booster when you hook up to cable.

Also, don't forget to use TV Fool to see where the signals are coming from where you are camping.
Link to TV Fool

If you are camping in the middle of nowhere, the easy way to find the coordinates is with Google Maps. Zoom in on your campground and the click on the "Link Button." (Shown with an arrow below.) You will see the coordinates where I was looking are 38.674789 and -94.428177. You will only need 38.67 and -94.42 for TV Fool; as that brings you within a mile.

the camper has been great so far with the exception of the concertone unit, we went thru 3, with the last one being the new genisis unit that has been working great. we ordered ours in late jan. received it in early march, even with the custom things we had done like no carpet in the bedroom we have the wood look floor thruout the camper. other thing we wanted was to have the awning cover both doors they said it couldnt be done, two months later the 2012 model is out with the awning moved and as far we can tell that is the only change.

I don't understand the awning thing. We looked and looked at various models and makes and found nothing consistent in how the awning was placed. We wanted both doors as well. When we went to order ours (ended up buying right off the lot) they had 4 3008's on the lot--all 2012 models. Two units had the front door covered, one had the rear door covered and the one we bought had both. But I noticed the same thing on a Jayco model we were considering.

Scan for the tv stations.

Once you raise the antenna, turn on the booster (AMP), you will have to scan for the local TV stations, You will have to select in the set-up of the TV the on-air antenna unless the place you are parked has cable. then you will have to scan for cable channels. When using the cable set up, you may need to turn the amp off.

Okay, now for the stupid question. I get TV reception at the house--all the Kansas City metro stations. We live about 30 miles of Kansas City. Have yet to get a TV signal while camping. I found the antenna boost after earlier thread posts made me aware of this and the green light is on. The wall plate has two identical connections like for coax cable. One is marked "TV" and the other "Sat/Aux". I would think there should be a cable running from one of these to the actual television set. There isn't. Shouldn't there be?

No. These are for other things, not sure what though, perhaps some one else can advise. Your system is connected behind the paneling and from what you say it is working perfectly well. If you do not get a signal in some remote areas it is because there is no signal.

Just to clarify, do you mean you get them inside your house? Or do you mean you can get them inside your trailer when the trailer is parked at the house?

If the latter- can you name a couple of the campgrounds you have visited? I'll try to look them up.

The "problem" with digital TV is it either works; or it doesn't. Unlike analog signals where you can pick up a snowy image from a distant station; digital is either all or nothing.

Get signal in the trailer while at home in the driveway and this is without the antenna being raised. As for a couple of the campgrounds: Knob Noster State Park (Knob Noster, MO) and Bull Run Bluff Campground (Camdenton, MO).

While in the driveway, I turned off the signal boost and lost the channels. Flipped it back on and the picture came back. Guess it's just the campgrounds because everywhere we have stayed in fairly heavily wooded.

OK, I've got 2 screenshots below. The first is Knob Noster, and the second is Camdenton. It looks like you may be out of luck at Knob Noster. The only channels you may pick up are KMOS (Digital), and K11OJ (Analog.) I'm still not confident as the analog signal is pretty weak even though it is close enough. (Look at the NM (dB)- the higher the number the better.) And KMOS while strong is alomst 40 miles away; which means any kind of terrain in the way and you are in trouble.

Camdenton does look better. I would try KRBK (Channel 49) as it is close and the signal is strong. The 3 other channels in the green should also be OK; they are further away but quite strong.

I hope that helps you read what the results say. If nothing else- now you have a hobby to do while camping; trying to find the TV signals.

Why isn't the system configured to keep the booster switch on at all times, if it is required to get a signal.

Thanks Ken0042. We are going out next weekend so I will see what we can get. Going down to Indian Point campground on Table Rock Lake near Branson. I have bookmarked the TV Fool page so I can see what it shows and start tinkering from there. Haven't missed the TV while camping but we hope to get out a lot this fall once it cools off some and college football season is just around the corner.
