Thermopane Windows

What are the Thermopane windows on Rockwood Mini Lites? Do they have 2 panes of glass or are they just tinted windows with a low e coating?

I have searched google for rockwoods version of thermopane windows but have found nothing of use.

We special ordered a Roo with thermopane windows and they were definitly double pane. And opened different from any of the other windows. They mostly helped with sound for us. They will not look like the frameless windows. They were more like double hung windows, but the top was fixed. Only the bottom slid up to open.

Our new camper has frameless instead of thermopane, as we love the look of the frameless.

I live in Texas where the summers are beastly hot but we also like to winter camp. Do you think the thermopanes will help much with the heat?

Did some research and Thermo Pane and Double Pane are the same thing. Double pane will definitely help with the heat. It helps with any temperature extreme, and it will cut down on outside noise. It is a good addition.

I have a Thermo-Panes on my 2306. Is a matter of fact, had to replace one because some weird reason (a rock flinged from the landscaping guy weed whacker?) cracked in million pieces (tempered glass). Anyway, they are pricey and is somewhat tailor made, went through a lot of measurements with Forrest River to get one ($400+ for 1 but was a full assembly, frame and all).

There is nothing really special about them. Is a double layer glass window. Not the type that you have at home filled with some inert gas. What it does is, create an air barrier to minimize the loss/gain on temps. Also, the condensation accumulates on the outer layer, allows it to drain outside through some holes (slots on the bottom), instead inside.

I can say, they work to an extent, but by no means they are magical. On our 2306, we encountered few days bellow 30 F. The fresh water hose (filter) froze (forgot to drain the hose), that is how cold it was outside, The heating pads kept the fresh water fluid and the inside, we used a 1,500 W Electric Space Heater that really worked wonders. The problem with condensation (Behind/Bottom of Murphy Bed storage) was solved by simply opening the roof vents, no fans, just opening the vent.

In the summer they work fine, the AC keeps up with the heat, but nothing to brag about either.

That will other one with Thermo-Panes, sure, they seems to work/help.

The only thing I know is that they're the most expensive option you can get on a Mini/Micro Lite ... and by quite a large margin. I'd want to see at least a little magic if I ordered them.

Is odd how they are assembled. The outer pane is attached to a hinge on the top and use a very sticky bead around them on the inside to secure the inside glass. The inside glass is attached to the close/open scissor mechanism on the bottom. When closed, it creates a flush finish with a rubber gasket that mates with the outer glass.

Well, technically, double pane are not thermopane. For them to be thermopane, they would have to be sealed and gas charged between the panes, like residential windows are. The ones they put in RV's and TT's are just double panes, each one offering around a R factor of 1, if that. For real effect, just go down to the local home supply and pick up on some Reflectix double layer reflective foil with poly insulation between the foils. It is about 5/16" thick. That offers 5 times the R factor. And it works great in very hot or very cold conditions. A 4 ft x 25 ft roll of the stuff at Lowe's is about $33.

A little trick..... use the same stuff on the inside of cabinets that are against the trailer walls and leave it there. Especially cabinets or on floor below dinette seating in the slide outs. No one will see it. Use some low tack tape to hold it in place so you don't mar the surface. That alone, year round will cut your AC and heating times down considerably. Do the windows, and you should notice a substantial drop in AC or heating cycles. The Window application can be applied and removed as required.
