Tires 2008 8285WS

Recently bought a used 8285 - Owner had installed new tires - size is 205-75-15 which are "C" rated (about 1800lbs). The spare is a 225-75-15 "D" rated.

Does anyone know the size of the original tires. Seems like "C" rated is not quite enough load carrying capacity. I checked the height of a 225 tire and it is slightly more than 1/2" taller. I currently have just a bit over 2" of vertical clearance to the top of the wheel well but I also noticed a large "chunk" of mounting structure that protrudes between the two tires. It seems like more of a hazard for tire contact than the wheel well.

I'd start by checking what axles are on the camper...probably 4000 lb axles (should be a sticker on the front, left corner). If they are 4000 lb axles, you need tires with a load rating the exceeds that. The 205/75R15 C is rated at 1820 lbs. I'm betting the OEM tire was 225/75R15 C rated at 2150 lb...that's the OEM Tire on a 2010 Rockwood 5ver. If you're buying a new set, I go with 225/75R15 D rated at 2540 lb.

Here's the problem - The exterior tag says tires are 205-75-15 (1820lbs each 7280lbs total), the axles are 3500lbs (7000 total). Both this tag and the interior tag list the Gross Vehicle Weight to be over 9100lbs.

So you would have to have a pin weight of over 2000lbs to be within the requirement of the axles and the tires would be marginal.

I will weigh it this week to find out the truth.
