A rip off. Looking at new cars today, Ford explorer had an extra $89 charge on the sticker for nitrogen charged tires. I wonder if they vacuum the ambient air out of the tire before inflating with nitrogen. No!

But, you should think about this,
The air we breathe is 78-79% nitrogen now, if you fill a tire with air the "smaller" air molecules will leak out, eventually even after topping off only the "air" will leak out and you should only have "free" nitrogen left inside the tire.

Nitrogen, one of the "biggest" scams going!
Good point. So I guess I do have nitrogen tires. Lol

A vacuum could break the bead off the rim, defeating the purpose.

What they do is the tires are mounted and balanced normally, then the exchange machine is hooked up. It deflates the tires, then reinflates them. The process is repeated generally four times then the results are checked, the goal is 90-95% N2.

Just thought I'd let you know how it's done.

Just a side note on this.
I went shopping for a new truck and one of the Ram dealers wanted to charge me $289.99 additional as 'extra' for them putting pure nitrogen in the tires.
I laughed so hard I could barely get into my car to drive off the lot

They live amongst us!!!

I would of done the same. Alot of people wouldn't even notice the added charge. Too many people just worry about " how much is it a month".

What? Holy crap, that's insane. That's 2.5 hours at dealer labor and $40 for equipment charge. That's like one lot I went to, it had a $700 lot fee. I asked what could have covered, to which I kept picking the answer apart until the GM asked me to leave. Other customers were listening and started asking the same questions.
