Top slide seal moves forward

Does anyone have a solution for the problem of the top slide seal pulling loose from the rear anchor point (screw) and moving forward while traveling.

I don't know if it is because of too much pressure on the top seal or what.

When my slide closes, it contacts the top seal and then the bottom of the slide is drawn in. Never any leaks, but an anoyance none the less.

I think they're supposed to do that. That is the top contacts first and then the bottom is pulled up tight against the trailer body. Thats what my slide room does. I can see the room lift up a bit from inside the trailer as the outside seals make contact.

Why your top seal travels around though is beyond me, I have no clue.

A pic would certainly help here but it sounds like maybe it's not enough pressure and the slide is moving in the opening causing the seal to crawl. Maybe a washer on the screw to hold the seal in place better (more clamping force) would fix it.

Are you talking about this? I have installed six screws on both ends and the seal and used Gorilla Glue and it still keeps sliding out of position when I tow.

Yep, thats exactly what I'm talking about.

I have always caught mine and put it back in place before it moved more than a few inches.

I have put a large flat washer under the screw at the rear, but it still pulls out.

Mine always moves forward. It seems to do it more if I do not use the slide locking bars inside when we travel.

Looking for a solution.

I don't use the locking bars. I have found that rubber seal on the back side top keeps the bars from staying tight and seems that the bar walk upwards and it may damage the rubber seal. I don't know what to do with this problem other then just remove it.

I went out and studied the issue of the upper seal moving forward and noted that the seal on the front edge of the slide was crushed complely when the slide was closed, but the seal on the rear edge had a squishy feel to it when the slide was closed.

I decided to try adjusting the stop for the closed position. After some experimenting I ended up adjusting the stops for both the front and the rear about 1/4". See picture below.

This resulted in the front seal having some give and the gap between the wall and the slide was now even from bottom to top. Before the gap was much less at the bottom. See picture below.

Unfortunatly we are finished camping for the year, so I won't be able to report results till next spring.

In any case, at least the slide is all squared up, and that should help a lot...even if it's just sealing things up for comfort.

Now that top seal sliding clear off the trailer...that's weird. I know the new ('08 '09)seal system is not like the old ones, and maybe this is one reason why.

Mine slides to the rear just as you see it, a 100 mile trip. It seems to me that the silde out when it is pulled in is not tight on the top side, and the slide is all the way in. I posted another thread about the bottom of the slide out interior wall being cracked, I wounder if this is related? I see your pic about the bolt adjustment, I will check mine, thanks.

Before you make any adjustments to your slideout, check to see if it looks like the rear of the slide is pulling in harder than the front and if the gap is even top to bottom on both ends.

Since my top seal always moves forward and your always moves to the rear, I am thinking maybe too much pressure on one end of the slide is causing the top seal to move.

There is a stop for outward movement of the slide also, that may be the culprit with the wall cracking issue. Do you have the link to the M-Tec slide drive adjustment procedure? Here is the link http://www.mteccorporation.com/downl...frameslide.pdf

Thanks for the link, my camper is home for winterizing and the slide out is open so that the carpet can be cleaned and all that good stuff before it is closed up. I will check and measure the slide out this week, the weather here is going to be in the 60's which is odd for November. Thanks again.

Here is the reply I got back from Rockwood regarding the upper slide seal moving. Basically they are saying, "Glue it down".

Re-attach the D-seal put a screw at both ends, then put a liberal amount of 645 along the top and over screws..allow a day or two for drying. This product has been doing very well for us, and it should solve the issue you are having.

Well it's a year later and my top seal has not moved since I adjusted the in stops on the slide. The top seal is only held by a single screw at each end, no glue of any kind. We have traveled about 4000 miles this season, so I think the problem is solved.

I see that I am not the only one with this problem!! Mine has 2 slide outs, and the front slide out (bedroom) never has any problem. The rear superslide- couch and dining table, has the same problem; the rubber seal on the top of the camper where the slide out seals up to slides backwards when traveling. I have put 2 screws with rather large washers in the seal to hold it in place; but it still manages to come loose and slide back!! Will be very interested in the fix!!! Randy
