Toyota Tundra and 2604SS

We have a Toyota Tundra and it is rated for 7200 lbs. We are looking at the Rockwood 2604SS and was wondering if anyone has the 2604SS and is towing with a vehicle that is rated at or below the 7200 lbs. When we camp it is usually always at a State Parks so we never tow with water in our holding tanks and we usually do not carry a lot of stuff. It will be just me and the wife. Any input would be appreciated.

Wolfe59,

I tow a 7000 pound, when loaded, Work and play, with a Ford F150 rated at 7200 pounds. I know it's there, but I know when I have a 700 pound utility trailer too. People that say "tows like it isn't there" in my opinion are asking for trouble. The specs on the trailer list a a gross weight of 6629 pounds. Your truck should do that. You'll be close to 6000 pounds with awning, propane, accessories. Leaves about 600 pounds for stuff. 40 gallons of fresh water will be 320 pounds and that leaves less than 300 pounds for food, clothes, chairs, cookware, etc.

Don't know hat your location is, tow slow, plan on terrible gas mileage, and not being able to run over 65, which is the speed rating on the trailer tires anyway. I get about 10 miles per gallon, with the 5.4 liter V8 automatic, on flat ground, less in the western mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Good luck and enjoy.

I tow a 2010 2604 SS with a Silverado 1500 4X4 the tow rating is 7000. I use a Equalizer hitch and tow in 3rd gear with Tow/Haul on. I have not towed in any mountains, just some good size hills. I can hold 60 to 65 without much effort. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input! I felt like it would be OK but its always good to get another opinion. I would never tow with water in the holding tanks and we would only keep items in the trailer that are needed for 2-5 days. I really think I could keep the weight under 6000 lbs. We live in Middle Georgia and would venture into the mountains of North Georgia maybe once a year. Most of our traveling would be at flat or low grades. This is a great site and I am glad I found this fourm.
Thanks

i have rockwood 8265s and i towed it with a chevy 1500 rated at 7700 and i weighed in full at 7600. Like they said earlier i did feel it was there but nothing that it could not handle. just stay slow and take it easy. its not like you need to blow people off the line or are going to go draging by any means

Just found out that I am rated for 8600lbs and not 7200lbs, so it looks like I will be OK with this set-up.
Thanks for everyones advice!
