Two gray water tanks

I just purchased a 2015 Rookwood 8289WS and it has two gray water tanks. My question is how do you connect the tanks to one sewer hose? Do you tie the hoses at the sewer connection or at the sewer dump?

My Windjammer has two tanks. On a full hookup site, I usually drain separately. There is a Y adapter made to connect the two lines. I would not leave the drain valves open because sewer gases can leach back into the camper through the sink and shower drains. Bobo

You can do 2 different things hook them up one at a time or buy this Amazon.com: Camco 39812 RhinoFLEX Wye: Automotive and 3 hoses

On my prior TT I used a wye and tied them together well before the sewer connection run. I had a lot of sewer hoses just in case, all Rhinoflex. I ran a 10 or 15 foot hose from the front galley drain along the EDDIE of trailer (part under a slide) to the wye which was also hooked up to a 5 foot hose that went to the other drain. Then from the single end of wye to 15 foot hose to sewer. Use a slinky for both the run from galley and from the main drain to sewer. Seemed to work pretty well for me.

I seem to recall trying to use the wye closer to sewer but didn't like the setup, plus had so much more sewer hose going out that way.

I had bought 2 of the 15' Rhino hoses, took the sewer connection off of one and put regular bayonet end on instead. Also had the 5' and 10' sections as well. Better safe than sorry. Made 2 fence post carriers to keep the sections in and mounted under the TT.

We also have a 8289....I have used 2 short hoses( 5') hooked up to a "Y" then to the longer hose....but have discovered that when we have full hookup...its just easier to do as the previous poster and just do one, then switch over and do the other...probably quicker than fooling around with 3 hoses and a Y....its been talked about in the past on here, I am sure they will chime in, but some have modified their plumbing to have just one outlet. I have considered doing that, but so far haven't been bothered too much by doing what I do.

Yeah it did take a little longer to set it up and take down using the 3 hose approach, but it was a trade-off for not having to switch hoses to drain the tanks mid-stay - only have to mess with handling and moving hoses at the end. I found our galley tank filled up much quicker and needed several drainings, but we cooked indoors a lot and washed quite a few dishes.

I go back and forth on the leave gray open/closed during stays. Sometimes I get some odor creeping in, other times I don't, and that's usually the deciding factor.

Another way to do the lone grey tank is hook up a garden hose with a valve at the open end to the cap on the tank . Run that hose over to the campground hook up. This way you don't have to crawl under a slide like on my trailer and you only need the one sewer hose plus the garden hose takes up less space. Leave the valve under the trailer open and when the tank needs draining open the valve at the end of the hose.

This is what I use when I want both hooked up:

I generally only do that if we are going to be there for a week or longer. If just a long weekend I'll use a single hose and go to each drain when dumping.

Thanks for your info. What size is the gray water tank on the 8289 without having to look it up, do you know?

I use this method as well. I also put valves at distal end of hoses prior to Y connection by CG drain to prevent back flow from 1 hose to the other when draining. 1 gray tank is under slide out and inaccessible so I leave that valve open and control with valve by CG drain .

On my 8289WS I combined the two outlets. I procrastinated on doing this a long while, as I was apprehensive about possibly messing something up.

The way that I did it provides a method of disassembling the pipes should you need to replace the seals in the valves.

George, I also have not done this either. I do like you idea using the flange like a union. That was part of my thoughts how do you take it apart if you have to.

I hard plumbed the galley tank into the grey tank my 08 Flagstaff and our present 12 Flagstaff 8528RKWS. One outlet, one hose to dump all 3 tanks.

Just remove the four bolts that hold the two flanges together (with the seal between them) and then any part of the system can be removed/serviced.

I too have two grey tanks. The kitchen dump vale I installed the garden hose end cap and bought the sewer flange that has the garden hose inlet.Rigged up a swivel fitting and plug for it.I just hook up the hose and leave the valve open on the 5er.Easy peazy.Use the hose for the black tank flush when I'm ready to dump.

I also use this method..to me it's the most simplistic

I hadn't thought about adding valves but did want something to prevent back flow into the other hose. I guess I was over thinking it and trying to make it too hard. Thanks for the idea

why in the world did they, FR, put 2 drain outlets under any coach.. Unless their is no room for the single to join.. I have 4 tanks, 2 in the back and 2 just in front of the wheels and all exit out of 1 outlet in front of the wheels
