For buyers, it’s better to have the cap without a lot of dark brown colour to avoid potential fading. For FR, I think they went with the new colour design to better advertise the brand.

I saw that pic on FB earlier today, too. They should have used the same colour combo for both pictures. Why use the white colour for the “old” pic and the champagne for the “new” pic? I prefer the white colour sides and would like to see that with the new design.

It seems to have a slightly different contour. Did they do anything different on the back side of the new cap?

Thanks, Pjb0949. I see you prefer the white, too. Looks nice, and traditional. I really like the 8299BS floorplan. Congrats on your new 5er!

To answer the question of space behind cap. It looks like the cap projects more forward of the pin with the greater curve of the cap which allows more room in the bedroom closet. This is good because of allowance for washer/dryer on the right side of closet.

My wife and I found the 8299 to be the perfect layout for us. The other thing I love is the auto level system. The thing I disliked the most with my previous trailers was getting things level, especially in bad weather.

If the new front cap projects a bit farther forward of the pin than the previous cap, does that present any problems for those with a 6.5 ft. bed?

The Rockwoods come standard with the Reess Revolution Pin Box. This will move your pivot point back 22” allowing for 90 degree turns. It’s basically a side winder so you will have no problem with short/standard bed.
We ordered our 8299bs last week and eexpect delivery late February/March.

Pjb0949 said the new cap projects farther forward of the pin than the previous cap. Even using the Reese Revolution that Rockwoods come with, the cap may start to get uncomfortably close to the cab if the cap reaches too far forward at the sides of the cap. I doubt that it would be an issue though using the Revolution as intended.

However, if I were going to upgrade, I'd strongly consider using the Andersen Ultimate hitch because of my bad back. Using the Andersen Ultimate requires that you leave the lock out bolts in so the Revolution won't swivel at the turret and becomes a regular pinbox.

I have a 2018 Rockwood 8295WS and the TV is a 2009 2500HD with 6.5' bed. Using the revolution hitch, it will turn over 90 degrees and not hit the cab. I love that setup.

Forgot to say I use a B&W companion patriot series 5th wheel hitch. No slider at all.
