Valve stems with TPMS transmitters

Hi,

I have a TST 507 system, and tow a 36' Silverback behind a K2500 Chevy standard cab, standard bed with no repeater.

i also have the 507 and chose the type that you can check the psi and add abit without removing the TPS. i know lazy but tire pressures are critical imho.

I have rubber valve stems with the TST 507 Non-flow through. ~4000 miles so far and no issues and have not lost any air since I put them on back in April. One sensor has always read 3 psi lower than than the other 3 but I know it and compensate for it. I guess I should contact TST and get it replaced but being on the road makes that tough for shipping. I am running it without a repeater and have not lost signal as far as I know.

Thanks. Currently sweating the same dilemma. Hate to have a tire taken off rim and put back on if avoidable. Put hate to go too far on China bombs without my TPMS mounted.

Hi Tom,

Not near the trailer now to take pictures. Sorry.

However, what I did was take a piece of high density ethafoam, and cut it into sort of a small disk and made a hole in the middle that was slightly smaller than the valve stem. I shoved it over the valve stem until it was tight against the rim and then installed the sensor.

The effect I was looking for was to create pressure between the sensor and the rim, such that the valve stem would not be deflecting, moving and abrading against the rim -- particularly when the spinning wheel hit a bump. So far, so good...

Thanks RICH Torn between winging it and either replacing the stems or reinforcing. I guess they need balancing now that the rig as a few hundred miles so will see what they want to charge me for new all metal stems at that point and wither fix em or replace em before balance.

I have the TST507 flothru-I did lot of looking & found a stem that was designed originally for an aluminum Ford dually-works purfectly for my use. I even called the manufacturer to discuss it with them. He even offered a little help that if I needed extra length because of wheel thickness the washer has a recess on one side that can be reversed giving more thread depth. If you get them you will understand. Dealer did not need to reverse it for my use. O'rielly auto parts have them, reasonably cheap. Their part # is 17-428 line code XTS

I forgot to mention I had to special order them. It took 1 day for me to get them. I ordered an extra one to have it if I ever needed it when on the road

I said i would check back after my trip total distance 3540 miles the TST system performed as it should, no problems with the rubber valve stems and chrome covers, none lost pressure. I did drove faster then normal because of time constraints going to IL and the TST gave me piece of mind. I highly recommend this produce oh ya I have 3/4 inch rubber stems with chrome covers and pass thru transmitters

My guess is the chrome covers kept the stems from flexing-I have aluminum wheels so no covers-had 2 high pressure stems which are stronger than regular rubber valve stems in 2 years break from flexing. They broke right at the wheel

Thanks. I looked at those stems online and thought they might work the best. I guess I'll get some coming. I drove 100 miles with the TST on rubber stems and you can see where they flexed over and were rubbing the rim surface. I'd rather not chance a road failure like that and will remove the TST until I get those stems in. Btw, the TST worked out well on that one trip.

I originally went to high pressure stems thinking that might be sufficient after ruining 2 sensors with rubber stems but the 2 high pressure failures made me go metal

Look back earlier in this thread as I think I provided a link to the chrome covers I use. Thousands of miles with no stem issues and I have alum wheels.

I have over ten thousand miles on rubber stems .no problems, no plans on changing to metal.
