vent hood damper

Went to use my vent hood for the first time. I can't get the outside damper open. It is the long horizontal vent. There is 2 "catches" on the bottom of the damper. I tried to open the damper by pulling down on the catches to release it but it does not open. The side of the catches look like they are attached like from the molding process. Can anyone confirm how the damper catches release the damper? Don't want to cut the sides if it doesn't work that way. Please help.

If you have same as shown, then use your thumbs and push up on the latches and pull outwards.

If its the same as mine, the catches tip to one side. Or pivot might be a better word. One goes left the other goes right. The tabs are attached from the bottom of them, where they pivot from. See if that works.

Mine are like what fonzie showed. Use a thin bladed screwdriver or a table knife. I finally got mine open and left it unlatched. Been unlatched for 2 yrs now and it's still hanging in there.

Our clips did become a little easier to unfasten after a year.

Thanks to all that replied. Fonzie your description was spot on. Got it opened this morning. There was some caulking under the latches I had to get out first.
