vent opening in transit

Several times while travelling down the road the ceiling vent in our TT has opened by itself. We KNOW it was closed when we set out. Is there an easy way to fasten it shut? The plastic crank does not seem to have any locking mechanism.

In my past trailers and 5th wheel we just cranked them down hard before travelling. If you have excessive bumpy roads or maybe some tire bounce may shake the trailer to loosen it open.
Have you ever considered havinging someone in the trailer for a test run and see what might be happening backe there?
Just a thought.

I just close them and then tighten the crank a 1/8 turn more and they stay closed.

Put MaxAir vent covers on and open the vents, can't hurt anything and it will keep the vent doors from beating themselves to pcs. We've done it for yrs with no ill effects and on hot days, it helps cool the trailer.

Crank is wearing out. I had the same problem a few years ago on my TT. I changed the crank, and it stayed closed.

Not only will the max airs, (or similar) protect the flimsy vent covers whilst driving and keep your rig ventilated, when camping, you can leave them open on maximum when it rains without getting a wet bed or floor.

X5, 6 or whatever on the Maxxair vents. We have two and rarely close our vents now.

X7 on the Maxairs. I don't leave home without them partially open for air circulation.

I guess I'm x??, but I rarely close my vents, and don't give it much thought.

Maxx Air, it is! Will do for next season. The crank should not be worn out, as it is a new trailer.

Had the same problem in ours, I was not tightening the handle enough. Just put on covers this weekend so we don't have to worry!

The crank is faulty then, Have them put a new crank in under warranty......or have them send you one and put it in yourself.

Hey, can I join the club?

I just installed a pair of Maxxair II's a few weeks back. I left them open when we got deluged with 4 inches of rain one Saturday. Nary a drop inside.

Forest River should fit them as standard equipment

If you run with the vent covers on and the vents open, you might not want to do it in the rain. The negative pressure created inside the camper would probably draw water in past your slide seals.
Otherwise, they are the bee's knees.
