Water Filter

This may be old news to some but I just discovered the hidden water filter in my 8289 is only connected to the cold water side.

I was about to spend big $$ to replace when I caught it. I flushed the cold water for 30 seconds or so to get the chlorine out of the lines and, voila, fresh tasting water.

The filter is by WaterPur and so far does a good job cleaning out the bad taste.

Checked my 8280 and it's the same--just cold water filtration. Good to know, but likely won't change how we use our water. We bring along purified water for drinking. I guess the point of only filtering cold is making it taste good and be safer for drinking.

I change my filter yearly regardless of usage. I find my dealer price of $20. reasonable. Actually, any thing purchased there (Wana RV in Shipshewana, IN) is always reasonable, from Honda generators to hose end fittings.

If the water is filtered before going into the water heater there would be no need to filter it again.

The factory filters I have seen are before the fresh water tank.

My TT (2604WS) has the water filter on the inlet side of the entire water system. Water goes from either on-board tank or city inlet, through the filter, then splits to the heater and cold side supply.

The entire system is filtered, both hot and cold.

However, not wanting to hassle with changing the filter which was behind the storage compartment wall, I bypassed it an now use dual external filters on the City Water Supply.

The only downside to this is that when using the pump and water from the Fresh Water Holding Tank is does not pass through the filter. HOWEVER, I filter the water that is put into the Fresh Water Tank as I fill it.

I was surprised to find only cold water filtration. That's why I wanted to alert those that may have the same situation.

Hmmm.... Are you sure?

I assumed that all trailers had the filter at the intake after the tank and it fed to the cold pipes and water heater from there. That's how mine is. Is your filter right by your pump?

Ken, just for clarification in the event that you have an additional filter under your kitchen sink for the cold water tap, where is the "hidden water filter" that you're referring to located?

Is it behind one of the walls in the understorage area, or is it under the sink or elsewhere?

I used the term "hidden" but only because it's enclosed behind a door with hinges on both sides. It's next to the pump and water heater.

Mine was behind this same door with hinges on both sides, preventing access into this area. I removed one side of hinges and use it now as a door, easily able to get into this area for access to water filter, water heater, and water lines. Why does Rockwood put double hinges on these doors in production?

I was told not to drink water from a CG even with a Camco inline water filter, just wondering if anyone does? We bring filtered water from home

I bypassed our water filter last year after a slow leak on the input side, and the hassle of trying to winterize with the canister in place. We drink only bottled or filtered water from home, so having a near unaccessible water filter is an unnecessary part in our camping world.

I use one of these just not to contaminate my Rv tanks and smells of CG well water, works perfect and you can't beat $10 per unit per season price

I also use one of these, along with the built in filter. We have had no issues drinking or cooking with the CG water.
