Water filter housing

Hey all,

Out on our first trip with our 2905ws. The water filter canister started to leak while we were away from trailer....no filter installed since water was tap water from home....

Put the filter on to see if that fixed the issue but that made it worse.

After reading looks like there should be a black o-ring with the canister?? Is that correct?

Many folks have reported leaking canisters. Some crack and leak, some just leak.

A lot of us have pre-emptively removed/bypassed the filters. You can get a coupler to do this at Home Depot for about 65 cents.



Most who do this then either use a Camco external filter, or figure out a way to use the removed filter outside. Do a search of the forum for filter and leak and you'll see lots of stuff.

The last thing you want is a flooded trailer.

What size do I need? 1/2 female to female?

I haven't had any problems with my filter housing leaking (knock on wood), but I've read enough threads about it happening that I would like to do this as well. Do I need a pex crimper, or will the original fittings screw into the female-to-female adaptor?

Depends.
Not all RV's are plumbed the same.
Many are able to use a 1/2" coupler to connect the filter fittings.
Many use a 6" x 1/2" pipe nipple.
I had to cut my PEX and add a piece of line because it was hard plumbed differently on either side of the filter.

Yes, you are correct that there must be a o-ring to keep the canister from leaking. Here is a link of some filter O-rings for a 10"canister housing and some pics of the ring in a canister that I had lying around. If I am not mistaken, they sell these o-ring at most HW stores.

Mine was 1/2 female. I took out the filter and took it with me. In my case, I unscrewed one side, allowing the fitting to rotate in the PEX. Once that side was off, I could hold the other fitting and rotate the filter. Did the opposite to install the coupling.

Some folks will tell you not to allow the fitting to rotate inside the PEX, but mine is doing OK so far. If you don't like doing that, you can get sharkbite fittings. You'd cut off the old fitting and the Sharkbite just pushes on (once you've installed it in the filter, of course).

Yea see where it goes on my cartridge now.... Just ok led this unit up on Friday.... Not in here at all

Its a slightly different cartridge

As I posted I literally looks down and on the ground by the outdoor kitchen the o-ring was there! Wasted a lot of water but at least the leak is gone now

Hopefully it all dries quickly

Mine was a 1/2 female also. I did the same process as you. I could not get the filter body off so I had to twist both sides off.
