water filter in while sanitizing the water system?

I sanitized the fresh water system on our new 8280WS as suggested using a bleach solution in the fresh water tank and running it through the water system and then letting it sit. Before I did this I removed the water filter. It was a bit of a pain and I'm wondering what your opinion is... should I remove the filter or leave it in while the bleach solution is running around in the fresh water system?

I'll probably do this again so I would be interested in any comments.

I would leave it out and use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The filter is a pain to mess with.

After flushing all taps and filling fw tank twice and draining I installed filter and have not looked back.
30+ nights and still kicking.

I'll probably do this again so I would be interested in any comments.

Remove the filter; flush and sanitize; replace with a NEW filter and pitch the old one. It should be changed every 6 months anyway.

OR

Remove it completely and install a pressure vessel in its place. Use an external "inline" filter for the incoming water.

Ditto on removing the filter during sanitizing and replacing with a new element when done.

If you continue to use the filter set-up that came with the camper then yes you should remove it prior to sanitizing the system and of course replace it each year. Or, which I like better is to toss the pain in the butt to remove water filter and as herk stated use an external in-line filter which can be purchased at Wal-Mart.

My dealer at the PDI told me not to put a filter in the housing and to use a outside filter for ease of use. Their reason was the days your not camping, the stagnant water just setting in the filter has caused problems with bacteria growth. They clam you need to drain the filter if it will sit for any extended length of time. This fall when I winterize I'm planning on by-passing the built in filter housing.
Might go with a pressure tank or might just used a nipple. We never use our fresh water tank and pump, so I don't know if the pressure tank would do anything for us.

I installed the pressure tank for when we boondock. Nothing wakes me up faster than the DW (or guest) flushing after a #1 and having that pump fire up.

The flush never bothered me, but the pump is right under our bedroom.

Now we can get 3 "#1" or 1 #2 flush before the pump fires up.
