Question Water heater switch

The switch on water heater located outside is for running it on electric and the switch inside is for gas ?

Correct. You can also run both at the same time. Most people use the electric, especially when at a campground where you are paying for the electricity already. Then, for faster re-heating while taking a shower or doing dishes you can turn on the gas temporarily until you are done.

When traveling, you can use just the gas if you want hot water. This practice is a bit controversial and possibly dangerous when re-fueling and has been discussed endlessly on threads here and elsewhere.

Some people leave the outside electric switch on permanently and use the circuit breaker to turn it off and on. Personally, I don't think circuit breakers are designed for repeated cycling and thus I don't like that idea. There is a thread on here somewhere showing the installation of an indoor switch and that is something on my own to-do list.

Our water heater electric element only comes on when the inside water heater switch is on, is the outside switch is on and the inside switch is off the water heater is fully off

I wouldn't want my LP water heater on while traveling. This has
nothing to do with fuel stops (well, actually I don't want my WH
on in a gas station either).
Mine will barely stay lit on a breezy day. I'm sure it would be
continually blowing out and trying to re-light if I was towing
down the road!
YMMV
My 2¢ (just why DID they drop the cent key on computers anyway??)

My fridge stays on in gas mode while I'm traveling, but I am very careful at gas stations when I do this! Randy

I was actually shocked that there wasn't a inside switch. This baffled me a bit when I first got the trailer. My last TT from sunnybrook had 2 switches inside 1 for gas one for electric. I almost burned up my WH element cause I didn't realize the outside switch had to be off for the WH to truly be Off.

As stated above; you can, if desired control the electric side by turning on and off the breaker labeled water heater in the converter's panel box. This only controls the water heater. I know breakers aren't designed for this type of usage, but I've never had any issues yet in 3 years. Randy
