Unhappy Water softener in the black water tank.

I remember reading a thread that recommended using water softener in the Blackwater tank to keep things from sticking to the side of the tank. The thread made a lot of sense so I picked up a bottle. My problem is I can't find that thread now. I don't remember how much they recommended using, just that they recommended mixing it with a few gallons of water before you leave to go to the campground. That way it will slosh around on the sides and lubricate them.

Can anyone tell me how much they use, what the mix is?

Jim

I just add a cap full each time I empty the tank. Put it in at the same time as the other chemicals and the initial water.

Google "Geo Method". I use it and it works well.

Sort of a side question, but spurred by this thread...

During our walk-through, my dealer said there was nothing wrong with using regular 2-ply toilet paper. He specifically said the "camper toilet paper" was not different, other than the higher price. Accordingly, we have been using regular 2-ply for the three trips that we have been on this year.

Should I be buying the RV TP?

I would say it's okay, here is a good test for you to do if your worried. fill a mason jar with water put in a sheet of the TP, shake shake shake. If it breaks up it's good to go.....

Agree with the mason jar test; we've always used the same TP in the MH that we use at the house and no problems. The stuff they sell at CW is good, though.....for nothing.

I think he fibbed a little bit. The RV paper is designed to "dissolve" a bit faster. But we have often used the cheapest standard TP around when we were short of the RV stuff. As long as you do decent black tank maintenance you are fine.

Sounds like good advice. Bought a 4 pack at local dollar store. Would still use a water conditioner so nothing will stick to the sides of the tank.

We have fulltimed since 2005. We use 1 ply toilet paper and never had any problems. Used to use Scott's but Walmart makes own brand and use it now. Thanks for the tip on water softener. Will have to start using it
