Weighing the 8282WS
Well I finally came across a CAT scale while on vacation and weighed the 8282ws......that explained a lot...and we were almost completely unloaded at the time.
You really can't believe anything the manufacturer says about pin weight...

yup...I just got back from a 3000+ mile trip, and it drove great, but I can't continue like this.

Exactly the same problem I have - My front axle is a bit heavier because of the diesel but rear is just about the same. (8285WS)
GVRW is 9300 with 7000lbs of axle - axle weight is now about 6900lbs - tongue weight 1800lbs for a total of about 8700lbs - Where do I put the additional 500 lbs??

That's quite a time lapse between weighing the truck empty and weighing it hooked up. Was passengers, fuel, gear, hitch in the truck the same for both weighings? The rear axle weight is real but it may not just be pin weight depending on your answer to the above. Either way you'll have to put the camper on a diet especially if you're that close to it's GVWR and it wasn't fully loaded.

In 2013 I weighed the truck after installing the hitch and airbags with full gas, but the area I live in made it very difficult to get to the local CAT scale with the 5er. I stumbled upon a CAT scale on our way home from Niagara and received the offending results. I've been suspicious of the pin weight ever since FR came out with new weights for the 2014's without a floor plan change on the 8282ws ( I purchased in 2013, but it was a build so it came in 2014).
Cooler in the bed of the truck; wife, daughter and dog in the truck; there is practically nothing in the camper, including an empty basement, on the second weigh. No matter how you do the math, this thing has a 1750-1800lb pin weight and is being sold as 1184lbs (2013) (then magically increases to 1324lbs without a floor plan change for 2014).
Very disappointing to say the least. It pulled great, but the South Carolina expansion joints had me bouncing pretty bad......I'm going to have to make an adjustment, either RV or tow vehicle for sure...

From my understanding, the 1324 pin weight was without the 2nd A/C or any other upgrade features...

IMO you are taking a big risk towing a (3) slide 5er w/dual A/C with a 1/2 ton Tundra... The good thing is that you now know your actual weights & can make an informed decision as to what to do next.
BTW, we looked at the Rockwood lightweight 5ers but the bunkhouse floor plan was too much for my 2500 (loaded). With our family of 5 & gear it would have pushed us right to the limit & I don't want to tow like that...

After reading this I need to get my 8289 to the cat scales. I know I was pushing the GRAW limit, I need to know for sure for my own info. I have around 3k miles of towing the 8289 since January, tows real good but I need to know the actual weight. I too have the 50A, 2nd A/C and a few other extras. I did read on a Tundra website that the axel is made by Hino and that Hino rates the rear axel at 5100#. Don't know why Toyota would rate it lower. "Must be true if it was on the internet"

I understand that front a/c adds less than 40-50 lbs to pin weight.

When I ordered the unit, the advertised pin weight was 1184lbs; then they changed the 2014 to 1324lbs without any floor plan change, or explanation from FR for that matter.
I called FR after the weight change and they had no answer other than they "might" have moved the axles forward.
How they are unsure of this is concerning to me.
I suspect, and the evidence confirms IMO, there is fudging of the numbers for sure.

I just got back from a 3000k trip, and it pulled awesome. I had to weigh it when the opportunity came because of the bouncing on expansion joints. Some were violent and I had concerns. The weight explains it.

As you weighed it to calculate actual pin weight, what was the rear axle weight of the truck with the FW hooked up?

On the 8282ws, the fresh water tank is behind the axle. Filling it, although it would take weight off the pin, it would throw the balance of the trailer way off.

I've traveled with my fresh tank full several times and didn't notice any difference. I believe the driver side is heavier than passenger side too because 2 slides, frig, stove, fireplace, TV, shower, corian counters, microwave, etc is all on driver side. Passenger side only has loveseat slide and pantry. Mine sits 3/4" lower on driver side.

True, and I've done that as well, but I believe that really throws off the "15-18% of the weight should be on the pin" guideline. Another contributor to the bouncing.
