What Generator to run AirCon?

Hi I have a Windjammer 3008w, it come with 13500btu AirCon, does anyone know what generator size I would need to run it?

AirCon is on 240v not 110v.

I also want to use it to charge the batteries when my solar doesnt do the job, my TT has 1200w Solar, 600Ahr of Lithium Batteries and 2500w Inverter/charger.

Would the little EU2000i do the job, I was also thinking of a 3.5kw generator???

One 3500 watt unit, or two 2000 watts paired together. Tons of info on the subject on this forum. Try the search feature.

240 volt? I would be surprised.

My bad. Of course you are right, there is nothing lower in 240 volt land. Sorry.

Seems like 5 amps, but here is a datasheet for one unit. http://www.airxcel.com/docs/default-...t.pdf?sfvrsn=6

Th OP is from New Zeland. 240 V is the norm which I favor. Smaller cables with Higher Voltage carry less Amps. I take 220~240 over 110~120 any time of the day.

Awesome, thank you. So this is the standard unit Rockwood use? Looks like a 3000w Generator would be enough. I think my inverter is an intelligent one that will add extra power (supplement) from the batteries if I am running other things at the same time.

I don't know exactly which unit you have, but if the BTU is close, the load should be commensurate.

Also need to check power frequency. May be 50 hz not 60 hz. Need generator that matches.

If unit was shipped for use in the USA, compressor is most likely rated for 197 to 253 volts, 50/60 hz. A 10 amp load at 120 volts = 1200 watts, 5 amp load at 240 volts = 1200 watts. Same running load on generator. Check the full load amps on compressor x voltage to get watts and size generator from there.

New Zealand Power is 50 cycle. U.S. Power is 60 cycle. If the generator is from the U.S. It will be 60 cycle. Make sure your appliances especially your air con unit can be used on 60 cycle. There may be potential for damage.

The starting load on motors and compressors is what kills you. I've read that you can run A/C on a 2000 watt Honda if you have an Easy Start that taped irs the load. I haven't tried it yet because of the cost.

A friend just tried his Honda 20i Generator and it ran the AirCon and a TV easily he said. It tripped the circuit when he also put on the microwave.

To sgh77: Did you mean 2000i? Was he running an easy start? What was the elevation. We lose about 10% of performance here at 5000 ft.
